Is it possible to upload the configuration from an old Modicon bridgemux BM85? Also are there challenges with trying to interface a bridgemux with a modern PC/laptop, i.e. usb to serial adapters?

Short answer, if it's a BM85 Modbus model, you can display the configuration on a terminal (Windows or third party all should be ok) and take a screenshot (or copy and paste the text into a document. I've done this myself using a PC and Windows Hyperterminal, and it's not too hard.) If it's a BM85 RS232 model, then I'm not sure. (I haven't had to extract the configuration out of one of these.)

What model BM85 are you using? There are models with Modbus ports (eg: NW BM85 000, NW BM85C002 or NW BM85D008) and the programmable port models, (eg: NW BM85E232, NW BM85D002 and others).

Rather than quote the manual, I'd suggest that you download the full manual from Schneider-Electric by searching for this document: 890USE10300.pdf This document explains what you need to do to display the configuration of your BM85, along with plenty of other info.

You will need a terminal emulator program (I don't think Windows 7 or later still has Hyperterminal, but I see there's "Hype! Terminal" available on Sourceforge, so perhaps that's worth a try.)

I don't expect that a USB to serial adaptor would cause any problems, but that would depend on your exact hardware and software in use. (And Murphy's Law, of course. :) )

Let me know how you go.
