What is the procedure to replace VTUR card of Mark VI

I have a problem with bus voltage measurement in gas turbine 9E with controller Mark VI. The reading of bus voltage in processor <T> was error. This measurement of bus voltage goes to card VTUR. If the card itself is the root cause and I want to replace it. How is the procedure to replace it?

I recommend the unit be shut down; at rest is best, but on cooldown or turning gear is okay.

Power down the affected processor from the <PD> core.

Disconnect the the cable(s) from the front of the card. BE SURE to confirm the cable identification with the connector label on the card edge. To disconnect the cable, push the chrome piece at the top of the connector DOWN to disengage the clip which secures the cable to the card receptacle, then pull the cable out of the connector. Try to pull directly away from the edge of the card, without prying up or down or sideways very much if at all.

Once you have disconnected the cable(s) from the front card edge, look at the cable end to understand how it works and secures the cable to the receptacle. This can prevent a lot of issues during and after reassembly if not understood.

Unscrew the screws at the top and bottom of the card and use the small square "handles" at the top and bottom of the card to unseat the card by pressing up from behind the square handle at the top and down from behind the square handle at the bottom.

Carefully slide the card out of the rack slot.

Look closely at the card you removed and the card you will be installing. While MOST Mark VI cards do not have jumpers on them, some do. If present, BE SURE to put the jumpers on the new card in the same position as on the old card!

CAREFULLY slide the new card into the slot, making sure the card is in the slots at the top and bottom and is vertical. Try NOT to short the components on the back of the card to the card edge to the left of the card as you are sliding the card into the slot.

After making sure the card is properly slid to the back of the slot (it will stop before it is fully inserted), use the thumb of one hand placed an inch or two below the square handle at the top, and the thumb of the other hand placed an inch or two above the square handle at the bottom of the card and press firmly with both thumbs to seat the card in the connectors at the back of the rack. The front edge of the card should be flush (even) or nearly flush with the other card edges. Then use a thumb placed as close to the middle of the card and press firmly again to help fully seat the card.

There are springy edges on the front edge of the card which can sometimes catch on the adjacent card edges and cause issues with fully inserting and seating the card. When inserting a card, slow and easy wins the race, if necessary withdraw the card to fix the edge(s) (in other words don't just keep applying pressure to seat the card if the front edge is not flush with the other cards; resolve the problem without the use of excessive force).

Tighten the screws at the top and bottom of the card. (Sometimes the screws can be the cause of an inability to fully seat the card; make sure they are not causing the problem by just unscrewing them a turn or so, if necessary.)

Make sure the clip on the cable is FULLY SLID DOWN before trying to insert the cable(s) back into the connector(s) on the card edge. Visually verify the cable is FULLY inserted into the receptacle, and then push the clip UP from the bottom to secure the cable to the card receptacle.

Power up the processor. Wait approximately 3 or 4 minutes, then open Toolbox, enable Privilege Level 2, navigate to the proper processor and VTUR card, and right-click on the card. Click on 'Download' to download the I/O Configuration to the VTUR card. It should not be necessary to Build or Validate, and you only need to download to the card you replaced (in this case, the VTUR).

After a successful download--as indicated in the Status pane at the bottom of the Toolbox program window; DO NOT CONTINUE until you VERIFY a successful download without erro(s) or warnings (simpy initiating a download is NOT SUFFICIENT; the download must complete without error or warning!)--power down the processor for at least 30 seconds (60 seconds is BETTER!). Then reapply power to the processor and wait several minutes to confirm it is synchronized to the other processors, controlling and equal.

That should be all that's required. The most common problems are: not properly (vertically) and FULLY seating the card after inserion; not properly and FULLY seating the cable(s) to the front card edge connector(s); not properly performing the I/O Configuration download (without errors or warnings), and not re-booting the processor after a successful download.

While the card can be changed with the unit running it is risky, meaning a risk of tripping. (The primary speed pick-ups are usually connected to the VTUR through the front card edge cable & connector.). Best not to tempt fate.
