On an Electric Motor Variable Frequency Drive with Modbus RTU as its fieldbus communication protocol. Can the Modbus RTU be converted (interface of some sorts) to Modbus Plus.

Yes, you can do that. Schneider has a Modbus Plus to Modbus bridge. It has one MB+ port and 4 Modbus RS232 ports. The part number is NW-BM85-000.

If the VFD is an ATV58 from Schneider, you can also put the MB+ optional board and make your VFD talk directly at MB+.

Check out Prolinx Gateways. They make a wide several products to convert from one protocol to another.

Hi Michael

FieldServer Technologies manufactures a Modbus RTU to Modbus + Bridge, the unit comes standard with a 1000 point limit which can be upgraded. Have a look at www.fieldserver.com Modbus RTU on the Bridge can be configured for RS-232 or RS-485. The FieldServer Bridge has an extremely flexible method of configuration for a multitude of applications.

Richard

My Personal experience has been that the BM85 from Schneider is a costly option. So, considering bridges from other mnfs is a good idea.
