searching for suitable branch fuses

Hi,

I'm struggling at the moment to find suitable branch fusing for AB powerflex 4 inverters. I am building to UL508a which means that I must use the branch fuses recommended by the manufacturer, AB in the UK cannot help !! I read in the manual that type CC, J , T or BS88 fuses can be used. I need a din rail mounted, UL approved fuse and holder, I've used Bussman before, but the quality was VERY poor (the holders were badly assembled - the ultrasonically welded parts fell off and the printing came off on my hands!) so I would like to try elsewhere - any ideas?

ps before anyone suggests MCBs, they can be used, but only with a branch fuse!

Marc:

Allen-Bradley fuse replacement documentation shows that most A-B drive fuses are supplied either by Bussmann or Gould-Shawmut. Since you had trouble with Bussmann in the past, perhaps you could try Gould-Shawmut.

Also, you mentioned that you were unable to receive assistance from an Allen-Bradley office in England. Did you attempt to contact the Drives Service and Support representatives in the United States? They can be reached by email at support @ drives.ra.rockwell.com.

Contact me via email ([email protected]) if you would like me to give you a phone number for the drives technical support center in the U.S.

I hope this helps!

AB makes some nice 3 pole fuseholders that work with Class CC fuses. 1492-FB3. Price is competitive as well.

I have never had any problem with Bussman fuseholders. What part number were they? Just curious.

Odd that you had trouble with the Bussman fuse holders.

I have used both Gould and Bussman J finger safe, neon indicating fuse holders successfully. The Gould holders are much more sturdy, but the Bussman use significantly less panel space.

Either is acceptable. Both are DIN rail mountable.

I believe that Legrand, Gould, and Wieland (or possibly Weidmuller - I don't recall which one of these two) sell reasonably good flip-out type DIN rail mount CC fuse holders. I've used all three and have no complaints about them.

I don't know if the Gould devices are still sold under the Gould lable, I think Legrand has recently been bought by someone else, and I think the "W" company (Wieland or Weidmuller) was actually re-selling a product made by Ferraz.

Your main problem may be that if CC, J, etc. fuses are not used in the UK, your local distributors may not be aware of them. However, I think that you will find that most of this stuff is actually made somewhere on your side of the pond.
