stall torque

Stall torque motors stalls once the rated torque is reached. That is beyond a certain torque the motors just stalls. Unlike other motors with the increase in the current the motor goes on increasing till itv reaches a flash point (Either Trips Or Fails)

Here the motor is rated for a particular torque and hence will take a normal course of current. For a torque region in the curve it protects the motor against heavier load. It stallls but doesnt alow the current to exceed the range to apoint of failure.

Applications

Crane CRD drums is one of the pplication wher this type of motors are used. Here the Cable Reeling drum motor movement takes place only in one direction. The motors stalls once the unwinding of the cable starts taking place. i.e It starts exerting an opposing force in the direction so that the drum doesnt reel of easily.

Here during unwinding there is a gravitational as well as the load of the cable under which the unwinding takes place. SO the motor stalls and produces a opposing force aginst the unreeling process.
