Mk 6 Alarms List

I have an application that threw up an alarm that we are not too sure about. It was;
Drop # 0000 Alarm XMIT Suspended CPU switched.

Anyone have any idea exactly what has caused this? Did the 5v power supply drop out briefly?

Odd bit to note is that it did NOT trip the GT!

Anyone.....?

Could this mean that the Designated Processor has switched from <R> to <S> for some reason? What other alarms (Process- and Diagnostic) were also annunciated at the same time?

What is the type of controller on your panel? If it is UCVF, it is possible that due to overheating, the processor switched to "Throttle Mode". In this mode it runs at 50% of the normal clock speed of 850 MHz.

<p>The mk6 is a SIMPLEX not a TMR, it only has 1 cpu. There were other alarms which could not possibly have been true, for example VBV A & VBV B resolver feedback failure-Step to Idle... but the machine did not trip. I believe these were just 'ghost' alarms for want of a better word... the HMI flagged these but they were not real!

<p>As you can see, the CPU switch alarm appeared twice but what tripped the machine was the Generator protection Relay alm at 11-55, everything else is suspect!

Two itsy, bitsy, tiny, little, small details: SIMPLEX control panel and aero-derivative application. Is this a "Millenium" package?

My bad; I don't go to the control.com webpage much any more (it either takes too long to load, or it doesn't load at all, or it just puts up the blue backgrounds). I subscribe to control.com's Automation List, which just sends the postings to my email address, and reply via email; sorry for not seeing the subtitle. I didn't see the "sub-title" with reference to the Mark VI being a SIMPLEX panel and controlling an LM6000 SAC.

My guess would be that something in the configuration/set-up of the Toolbox file isn't quite right to "permit" such an alarm in a SIMPLEX configuration.

AND/OR

I don't know much about LM applications but if it's one of those Millenium packages, there are all sorts of possibilities for communication problems with those--I'm told. Sounds like some bits went to the wrong bucket somehow.

Had there been any re-boots or downloads just prior to this incident--of any processor(s) or HMIs? What HMI application is running on the HMIs? Are there more than one HMI? Did they are report the same alarms?

Hi.

The CPU/controller card is a UCVE with platform IS215 UCVE architecture and 4.09 MB of memory.
The Bus Master Controller is a VCMI. The HMI runs CIMPLICITY as normal. Not sure what you mean MILLENNIUM, that is usually Woodward isn't it? The HMI operating system is WIN2K and its useful in recognizing any USB port hardware we plug in.

Someone at site has mentioned that the HMI and Mk6 are left on-line (with the EQUALITY box open) for extended periods of time, to my knowledge this does commit a large portion of the comms memory to maintain the on-line data transfer which sounds a likely cause.

FF

Please provide info. on the following:

1. UDH port baud (10MB / 100MB - Link Status LED will be green for 100MB)
2. System Memory
3. Frame Period
4. Controller Load Profiler - Enabled or NOT
5. NTP mode - Broadcast or Unicast
6. Extended Alarm Queue Size - Enabled or Disabled
7. Hold List Scanner - Enabled or Disabled
8. Period of EGD Exchanges

Sorry but I am not able to provide this information due to not being there on the platform.

We believe that there is considerable air-borne pollution where this HMI ?Mk6 is located and that over a period of time the motherboard has become heavily covered in a black carbon based dust / soot and that this may effect the pin-out on various IC's and processor legs with a semi-conductive path. Im sure you can guess the rest!!

Incidentally, what happens when an INTEL processor overheats? Are there internal setpoints to govern a) the cooling fan operation and b) the shutdown or 50% speed step to avoid terminal processor failure?

Radhakrishnan,

We are experiencing this alarm at one of our sites, but it is from both EX2100s. They have ACLA cards, DSPX firmware revision is 3.07.00C. Last fall, the cables were replaced per PSB TB25026 and plans were to upgrade to ACLEs but the wrong cards were shipped.

The XMIT SUSPENDED, CPU SWITCHED alarm is often followed by ACLA - DSPX communication faults and eventually EGD communication loss.

Anyone have any ideas? Should the ACLE and associated firmware upgrade fix this?

Dear Radhakrishnan,

This is the complete answer for your questions:

1-UDH port baud (100MB - Link)

2. System Memory: 8192K

3. Frame Period: I do not know how to get this data, please advise.

4. Controller Load Profiler: Diabled.

5. NTP mode: Broadcast and Unicast clients, with master HMI having Broadcast and Unicast NTP server. NTP for controllers are Unicast.

6. Extended Alarm Queue Size: I do not know how to get this data, please advise.

7. Hold List Scanner: I do not know how to get this data, please advise.

8. Period of EGD Exchanges: 320 msec

Radhakrishnan, and CSA
Please advise me.
We are now experiencing a fatal MARK6 Error, causing the unit to shut down maybe every 15 days. We have mark 6 TMR system.

The IONet communication error. We have two units controlled by MARK6. The commissioning was from approx 2 years. We got in the last two months many IONet errors, causing the Core <T>, and/or <R> especially to be out of service and not possible to get reset.

First we got an IONet 1 failure on VCMI R, we checked the coaxial cables of IONet 1 and no change, but when we opened the terminal resistor of this IONet and put again and RESET it accepts the reset. BUT the second day the unit tripped again by the same fault. We changed the VCMI of core R, and the unit was still ok for one month. After one month the unit tripped again and caused the other unit to trip because of the core <T> failure in both of them. First we found from our investigation the following alarm toggles in both units maybe thousands of times:

31-AUG-2008 00:44:27.303 K101 1 Q 0000 ALM ALARM XMIT SUSPENDED. CPU SWITCHED.
31-AUG-2008 00:44:27.303 K101 0 Q 0000 ALM ALARM XMIT SUSPENDED. CPU SWITCHED.

Then one unit tripped by controller failure and after 30 minutes the other failed.

Could you please clarify the meaning of such <ALM ALARM XMIT SUSPENDED. CPU SWITCHED>? And could you please tell me about your suggestions for the cause(s) and solution of this IONet problem?

Moreover, it supposes that we have TMR system, when one core IONet fails why does the unit trip?

Please Note that we have 4 HMIs one is the master has a time card and it is NTP server Unicast and broadcast. the other HMIs are Unicast and broadcast clients.

Please advise me.

Best Regards.
