Gaskets
Does the inner ring of a SW Gasket obstruct the flow through a pipe?

I have always wondered if the inner ring of a SW Gasket will cause a disturbance in the flow through a pipe and act like a little orifice. After reading several manufacturer's catalogue and did a field comparison myself, I saw that the inner ring of a gasket shall always sit nicely with the pipe bore diameter.

Is this true for all cases? As I have also come across research paper which says that Inner Ring does obstruct the flow through a pipe.
