Velocity Unit Conversion Calculator

Linear motion is a property of every system from CNC manufacturing to warehousing, robotics, welding, and even virtual environments. Many comparable units exist through the metric and imperial systems.

Feed Speed and Travel Velocity

For many industries, miles or kilometers per hour will denote the travel speeds of wheeled robots and vehicles. But for others, such as CNC axis travel speeds, the reported units will most likely be more concerned with distances of millimeters or inches over a short time.

As a general rule of thumb, when comparing speeds of different units, a larger distance covered will yield a larger velocity, but a larger time frame will yield a smaller velocity. If both distance and time vary between unit systems, one change will be larger than the other, impacting the final result to a larger extent.
