Dear all,

please help me regarding the shutting down of GE PLC RX3i. We are having few GE PLCs at our plant which are to be shut down or powered off for some reason. My question is if the PLC is powered off, what will be the effect on the battery? Will it get drained? Will the program loaded in the PLC get erased due to lack of battery backup?

Please reply..

What CPU is it?

If the battery is good, you can shut down temporarily. I have commonly seen them shut down for the weekend.

The battery will go bad even if the PLC is never shut down. But if battery is dead and you shut down PLC it will loose program. Do you keep the current logic stored in CPU Flash memory?

Using a CPE305 CPU, I have had several units hold memory for a month or more....and a few that will barely make 2 days.

There is a battery expansion pack available also.
