Modbus Architecture Question
The general definition of an Edge device is that it sits at Level 1 or Level 0 in the design hierarchy. There are several different philosophies for gateways at that level and it depends on your hardware and/or perspective. You could use a Moxa edge gateways (DIN rail device) for connection...

Online Pneumatic Simulator
Great find and great content. A lot of the principles and operational designs are relevant to industrial controls. Much of it reminds me of my apprentice times working on drying systems using waste heat and gas fired heaters.

Modbus Architecture Question
Yes and No 1. Gateway yes if your PLC does not do Modbus natively or with its own IO card. 2. Your local historian should have long term storage option via a shadow server or SQL database, if it doesn't get a better one. AFAIK using FTP will not be a good option, storing using FTP means it...

PLC to PLC communication between two different machines by different manufacturers
It sounds like your two vendors are treating the alarm data differently. #1 is expecting an alarm to be signalled/sent from within its program structure by using the tag number or alarm number. #2 is using a data array/block which is expecting the alarm initiating bit address. Proceed by...

Naming convention for Analysers
You are correct to use A for the measurements mentioned as it falls under analysers/analysis, it is the measurement or initiating variable under measurement or control. Under ISA 5.1 the use of Q as a first letter is prescribed as Quantity not Quality. If you are encountering people...

Calibration of proportional amplifier card
What a great question and it took a lot of searching to find some sort of answer. It appears that the PV24F/20 card had a Rexroth part number of R902001599, possibly in the changes related to Mannesman/Rexroth/Bosch. The card appears no longer available new but there are plenty for sale from non...

Yokogawa FCS Time Drift Issue
If it was all correct at commissioning then it was possibly set up correctly. Some windows10 updates can undo a local policy which directs HIS to a NTP (server or GPS clock) and sets the HIS to look at its own time or an internet time source that may not be accessible.

Yokogawa AXFA14C
impressed or stray voltages that appear on piping also appear by contact in the process fluid which can impact the measured signal detected by the mag tube electrode. it is important that the mag tube electrode is not the path to earth for other electrical currents.
