Sending Flow Meter Information to RTU
If I understand your question correctly, I think you want to take a 4-20mA flow signal, and then convert it into a pulse signal (dry contact), which you will then use for totalization, is that right? If so, then yes -- this is possible. I wrote an article about how to accomplish that very...

Which able to use for RS-485 connection?
Hello J.F. What baud rate do you plan to use? The reason I ask is because the lower the baud rate, the more forgiving the RS-485 communications will be when using less-than-ideal cable and/or less-than-ideal termination resistors. Hope this helps!

Multi Baud Rate on the Same RS485 MODBUS RTU Bus
Denaize, I ran into a situation one time where several of my Modbus slave devices had hardwired serial settings that could not be changed, and I needed to read them from a single Modbus master --- which sounds a lot like the problem you are facing. My solution was to use a Digi One IAP...

Pressure Sensor that Inverts a 4-20ma Signal
Mike, You may want to take a look at this device: http://www.camillebauer-usa.com/pdfs/Sineax_VS50_datasheet.pdf I've never personally used one; but according to its specs, it can convert a 4-20mA signal to 20-4mA. Hope this helps! -Jim Mimlitz, SCADAmetrics

Flowmeter for Low Flow in Gravity Sewer
Hi Morley, I have a client who faced a similar issue, the only real difference being that he had an 8 inch sewer line instead of a 4 inch line. Like David wisely suggested above, he installed a U-shaped trap in which to install the flanged magmeter, since it is imperative that the pipe be...

PLC Not Receiving Pulse from ABB WaterMaster
Hi Bob, I checked the documentation regarding pulse from the WaterMaster, and noticed that all pulse outputs are solid-state contact closures (open-collector transistor outputs). Therefore, you will need to ensure that you are using a voltage source and a pull-up resistor. Here's the ABB...

Chlorine Pacing for Water Treatment Plants
Some great replies here. Obviously experienced hands. I would only emphasize a couple of points made earlier that are very important: 1. remember that the chlorine feed may not show up in the analyzer reading correctly unless the analyzer is far enough down the pipeline to allow for...

Power Meter Destroys Modbus RTU Bus Communication?
I've seen similar problems a few times before -- where one device brings down the RS485 bus. One issue that may or may not be the problem that you are experiencing is with the common mode differential voltage between devices on the bus. Here's how I test for it... With the PM750...

Modbus and meters
Hi Kshitiz, There are many electric meters that feature modbus capability that you can read via your java app. Water meters and gas meters... not so many choices. My company does manufacture a bridge/gateway device, the 'EtherMeter', that converts water and gas meter readings (both...

Modbus with AB PLC
I don't think the 1761-NET-AIC will do what you are trying to do. Instead, I'd recommend you use a DIGI ONE IAP to convert EtherNet/IP to Modbus/RTU(485). This will help you in 2 ways: 1. This won't consume one of your CompactLogix's serial ports. 2. Your ladder logic in the...

For what you're trying to do, I recommend the DIGI ONE IAP: http://www.digi.com/products/serialservers/digioneiap.jsp#overview I've used this device many times, always with success. Hope this helps!

Reverse flow alarm using Ultrasonic flow meter
Dasa, If you are open to other options besides the ultrasonic flow meter, then my company has a very clean solution. We manufacture the EtherMeter, which is a device which connects to many turbine-type flow meters and converts the readings into Modbus. When the turbine turns in one...
