You cannot send a STX (2) or ETX (3) character by typing them into HyperTerminal. When you type the character 2 into Hyperterminal you send a character that is hex 30 (or decimal 48). Please try this puzzle: http://ControlPascal.com/tutorial.htm#puzzle

I'd suggest first talking to your sensor with a Windows or Linux PC program using the simple pascal source code here: http://ctrlterm.com/custom.htm After that works it should be easier to implement the program for the pic24. Regards, Paul www.ControlPascal.com
