Seeking information

I have been in the market for the last 5 months!! Surely, the economy isn't THAT bad! I must be doing something wrong, because I definitely am a worthy candidate:

I have a Bachelors degree with honors in automation and control from St.Petersburg State Technical University, Russia.I then came to the United States and graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago with a Masters degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I also have real-world work experience as an Applications Engineer, and have worked in a variety of areas in the industrial automation field.

I seek information as to how I should redirect my efforts in landing a job in Automation/Controls. Any tips/advice will be appreciated.

If you'll work cheap enough, there are plenty of jobs around. The strange thing is, it seems like those the highest qualifications are having the most problems. I recently got a phone call from a personnel type telling me I was the most qualified applicant they had, but they didn't think I would take the job at the pay level they were offering. They were right, I make more money in maintenance than they were offering for plant engineering. It seems it's all about money now, "we don't need no steenking experts". You might try getting any job for a company you want to work for and work from the inside to get where you belong.

I am also seeking a job in this field like you but don't have any clues as to how I should proceed job-hunting. Have you found any ways to go about? I hope you have been successful in getting a job.

You may have to swallow your pride a bit do to do so, but put "Bachelor's Degree" on your resume instead of "Masters Degree".

Many companies see the advanced degree and either believe:

1. Too expensive.

or

2. Will not stick around.

Best of luck.
