Fuel Flow measurement/consumption
Engineering and workplace issues. topic

We have a diesel engine that has a supply fuel line, and a return line (after the injectors) that goes back to tank. We are building a data aq system for this engine/dyno, and want to measure fuel flow that can be translated into fuel consumption for a college lab. We are having a tough time finding sensors that will 1. do the job, and 2. provide us with a accurate reading and at the correct gal/hr levels.

We have already got a weight system, but that isn't sufficent, we want to measure flow.

Looking for a sensor that will measure .5 gal/hr to 5.5 gal/hr. And, we would like accuracy of around 1% if possible...?

Any ideas/suggestions/links would be very helpful and appreciated!

Thanks!

Coreolis meters will do that but they are expensive. You might get away with gear type meters perhaps counting the pulses. Another way would be to have a small day tank where you can see the change in level.

Turbine meters were originally developed as fuel flow meters. Ideal for the application

Go to any auto electrician or major car supplier and get a couple of their fuel flow transducers.
