axial bearing temperature

We have a question related to the W251 axial bearing.

Axial bearing has temperature measurements on both sides (active and inactive). Each side has two measurements: one is located in an upper half pad and the other is in a lower half. Usually, upper and lower halves are not at the same temperature, and this goes unnoticed to the Operator because the Operation Station only shows the average of both values.

We found an axial bearing active side with the upper half of the bearing with some burned oil and the lower half partially molten. The temperature was obviously too high in the lower half, but as the indication in the Operation Station is the average of both, the operator never knew that the lower half was over temperature.

Questions:
1. What would be an acceptable maximum difference between the temperatures of the upper and lower halves?

2. Why we have such a high temperature difference between the lower and the upper pad?

3. Which is the maximum temperature permitted for each half (upper and lower) and the average?

Your opinion is highly appreciated.
Kind Regards.
Norberto.
