Using PLC as an ad hoc DAQ
There's a whole category of data acquisition instruments known as 'data loggers' that are self-contained units with analog inputs, some storage and some means of exporting data, sometimes as a .csv file. Google can find them for you.

Using PLC as an ad hoc DAQ
Is there an existing "data acquisition setup" that you're not inclined to use? Why? The owners of the PLCs will ask the same question. The AI's-on-the PLC approach is technically doable, if the PLC 'owners' are willing to let you alter the PLC program(s). If your PC is outside the...

HART Communicator connection to instrument which is connected to PLC
1. The most common issue is loop resistrance. A HART loop requires a minimum of about 250 Ohms in order to develop sufficient signal strength. That resistance is usually supplied by the resistor across the (+) and (-) terminals on the analog input card. Many brands and models of AI cards...

E&H vortex flow meter flow computer error(S-539)
I can't help you. The manual is not clear on which parameter needs to be turned OFF. The references might refer to the Windows PC based tools like Fieldcare or DeviceCare or Field Xpert.

Emerson Vortex flow meter fluctuation in reading
Sometimes good instrumentation shows a process condition that operators don't want to see. How do you know that " there is not fluctuation in syn gas flow"? Noise can be the result of a poor flow profile. Swirls in the flow profile affect the formation of vortices. Vortex meters need long...

E&H vortex flow meter flow computer error(S-539)
Many process instruments that use a temperature or pressure sensor for compensation have an emergency mode where a static value can be used, instead of the dynamic measurement in order to bypass a failed sensor measurement and still get an output value. Page 156 of the Prowirl F200 manual at...

PLC wiring check
Let's start at the very beginning: With the signal source disconnected from the isolator/splitter, can your DVM (milliamp mode) measure a valid 4-20mA signal? With the signal source reconnected to the isolator/splitter, but disconnected from the 16 ch AI card, can your DVM (milliamp mode)...

PLC or DCS controller?
The real debate is between a motion controller and a PLC. DCS is typically not a contender. There should be some opinions expressed by those far more knowledgeable than I in motion control that can offer their opinions. The topics has come before.

ADVANTAGES OF 4-20 mA current Signals
Voltage Outputs For some reason, analyzers and scientific instruments that find their way into the process world are the suspects for voltage output signals. And probably not isolated which will require an isolator module by the time the signal gets to wherever it goes. There are some "low...

ADVANTAGES OF 4-20 mA current Signals
Ethernet-APL has a real chance of supplanting 4-20mA. Ethernet-APL is 2-wire, loop powered Ethernet communications that can be intrinsically safe. The 2-wire (power to run the field device over the same wires as the output signal) part is a big deal for long cable runs encountered in the...

ADVANTAGES OF 4-20 mA current Signals
The analog signal, 4-20mA, is used worldwide because - it is simple and rugged - in its 2 wire, loop powered form it gets its power over the same wires as the signal, which reduces the cost of wiring extra wires over long distances. - it has an inherent 'live zero' where zero engineering...
