Air Gap Between the Thermowell and Temperature Sensor
For good measurement, one wants heat transfer to be as quick as possible. So you do not want an air gap. The idea is to use thermally conductive compound/grease to fill the void between the sheath and the well so that there is no air gap to create thermal lag. In fact, the element should...

PLC as a Data Concentrator on RS485 Protocol
You certainly have your work cut out for you. According to the MSB632RA-DC's user manual, http://comfiletech.com/content/cubloc/msb632ra-dc_manual-eng.pdf the single RS-232 port is a Modbus Slave port, with a wiring distance limitation of 2m, so the device will have to be in close...

Two 4-20 mA Signals Through One Pair
The DC power for both of the loop powered transmitters comes from a common power supply. Somehow or other, the DC power supply is wired to each of transmitters' (+) terminals, but that wiring is not using either of the conductors in the pair you've referred to. Some other pair or other...

Analogue Input & High Level Analogue Input
The term high level analog input could very well be a vendor-dependent marketing term. A couple of vendors call a high level analog input one with only 0/4-20mA or 0/1-5Vdc inputs. While an analog input could be either a universal analog input (T/C, RTD, or mA) or dedicated current, voltage...

Diaphram Seal and Manifold
The integrity of the capillary or seal/sensor volume is critical. That volume must be: - completely free of gas/air - completely filled with fill fluid The slightest leak in a manifold valve stem seal or flange gasket and that integrity is gone and with it go the pressure readings...

Modbus Connection to Barcode Reader
The set of tasks is too involved to provide detailed instructions, here, too. It isn't clear whether the metal detector programs are identified by bar code value or some other 'arbitrary' product number. If different than the bar code value, then associating the bar code value with a product...

No Voltage to Analog Output
Just like there has to be a pressure differential to create flow, there has to be a voltage potential difference to drive the current. A control signal from a PLC to a VFD is an analog input to the VFD. That VFD analog input will have a shunt/dropping resistor built into it. The ABB ACH550...

Infrared Sensor (Back Scattering)
According the minimal info available, the sensor output is a mA (current) signal, not a voltage signal. Put a mA meter in series with the output and see whether the signal modulates with varying backscatter.

Float Type Level Switch and Foaming Problem
I have used the sensitivity adjustment on a Siemens CLS 200 or CLS 300 capacitive level switch to get it to distinguish between foam and liquid. It has worked fine in each case, where the intent was to detect liquid, not foam. While I was messing with it, I tested it in three cases and found...

Pressure Drop Across Coriolis
There are multiple Coriolis meter tube shapes: straight, B, D or U shaped, triangular or helix. https://s7.postimg.org/r6w6hdh9n/Coriolis_tube_shapes_2.jpg Each has its own pressure drop characteristic. Obviously, the triangular tube has a greater pressure drop than the straight tube...

Infrared Sensor (Back Scattering)
The spec sheet clearly states that the IL55 sensor is intended for use with a Partech analyzer/Montior. "The sensor uses 180° Back Scatter of infrared light to detect the presence of solids in the pipe, the sensor electronics provides an output signal that is used by either the 8100/8200 or...

Intrinsically Safe
The device, the positioner, will not be protected from electrical faults in the safe area that could create arcing/sparking conditions in the positioner. It will function OK as a positioner, just not as an I/S positioner. The intrinsic safety is only achieved when the loop is engineered...

Modbus RTU to 2 Master Devices
The reason Modbus RTU is "one master only" is that there is no control over the 485 bus (other than a single master) so that messages don't collide with one another. Assuming there's a BacnetIP/ModbusRTU gateway, - Have the Modbus RTU master poll the Modbus RTU slaves. - Have the Modbus...

Unit ID
I'm in that group of people who mess with Modbus who like external serial setting devices, like DIP or rotary switches or jumpers. But this unit does not have that. But most Modbus devices allow for firmware changes through a setup mode. I don't have a unit to play with, but my guess is...

Selecting a Transmitter
In my opinion, it's not worth it to visit the manufacturer (and I've done it). In today's global manufacturing environment, which manufacturing site is the critical one? The vendor casting the housing and their quality control (or lack of it) in chasing the threads for conduit fittings or...

Wiring Diagrams for Rotork Electric Actuator
I dread start-ups with Rotorks for just this reason. The three times I was involved there there was no Rotork wiring diagram with the actuator. Each time Rotork's telephone tech support required the model number AND serial and had to 'go look it up' and send the wiring diagram later on...
