Condensate pots and flow measurement
1. The purpose of condensate pots in steam flow measurement is to isolate or seal the transmitter from excessive temperature exposure by isolating the steam pressure through a column of condensed water. Why does your plant use seal pots on water? I'm not sure. Theoretically...

Split Range Control on two valves - HC900-C70R
The pressure transmitter is the input to an analog input function block. Its analog value is the process input to a PID function block. The output of the PID block connects to two AO function blocks. One AO function block is ranged for 4-20mA over 0-100% of the PID output, which drives...

Problem in Modbus Master Simulation Tools
It sounds like you just don't have a connection. RS-485 has some issues. The A/B or (+)/(-) lines are labeled differently, depending on manufacturer. One major European manufacturer labels one way in one division, the opposite in another division. So you should always try swapping the...

Loop calibration for 2 wire loops
Can you do a loop calibration? Probably. But you're on your own figuring it out. Kusam Electrical's web site http://kusamelectrical.com/loop-calibrator.htm has a non-functional button that appears to link to the 'on-line manual', but there is no on-line manual. I'd call it a dead link...

ABB Thermocouple Transmitter reading fluctuates
6 different T/C transmitters with a 4 year history of proper operation which now fail-low intermittently, but none share a power supply or an input card. Hmmm. It isn't clear whether the transmitter is configured to 'fail' or 'fault' at a high output (~22mA) or fail at a low output (~...

Tri-Sen analog output low
Page 40 of the TS310 User Guide states that the voltage driving the output is 7 volts and that an output configured for 20mA max can drive a load up to 350 ohms. An additional 15 ohms (365 ohms total) would limit the max output to 19.2mA. What's your loop resistance? What's the AO...

Liquid gas level measurement
> But we noticed that when tank level is 15%, pressure is around 5 bar & when level is 50%, that time pressure is 7 or 8 bar only. But when level is 80%, pressure immediately increases to around 15~18 Bar. < Check out how a DP pressure transmitter works (DP = high side minus low side)...

ABB Thermocouple Transmitter reading fluctuates
1) What is an example of a 'good reading', for example, 215 Deg C? 2) What is an example of a 'bad reading', for example, 220 Deg C? 3) What does it mean "to read" and then "not to read"? What exactly happens when it 'does not read", using numbers? 4) How long have the installed...

PLC Communication with Honeywell Experion over modbus
DCS documentation is available only to the privileged few, which doesn't include me, so I can only give a generic Modbus answer. The fact that the PLC has register addresses means it is the Modbus slave. So the DCS has to be the Modbus master. The PLC register addresses, in hexadecimal...

Panel Pressure Transmitter
You can't have your cake and eat it, too. > the internal pressure of the panel to ensure that it does not exceed 2.5 kPa. > The panel needs to be kept above 50 Pa. Which pressure are you talking about? I suspect that this is for explosion proofing the panel by purging. Is that the...

Final year project using Honeywell DCS
Current firmware 4.4 (or higher) HC900 controllers can use flash memory in the controller's CPU for tag value data storage. The best description (with great graphics and illustrations) is the 'HC900 CPU data storage and retrieval app note', available here:: http://tinyurl.com/m6cpqt4...

Unable to load DTM of HART Field Transmitter

Modbus Register Set
One of two situations is likely - word order mixup or mixing words from different values. Usually if you're reading from the correct registers but are interpreting using the wrong word order, the value interpreted is way of reality by many orders of magnitude, because the exponent value is...

Using an MTL 7706+ Barrier eith HART
Your co-workers and colleagues are the people who can tell you whether it works or not. It should work. HART is an FSK signal superimposed on the 4-20mA DC signal (the analog part). The two FSK frequencies (tones that represent a logic one or logic zero) are 1200Hz and 2200Hz. The MTL...

Boiler Combustion Air Flow
A reason for doing square root in the DP transmitter is that it is functionally a flow transmitter. When the Standards committee at ISA wrote ISA-5.1-1984 (R1992) for tagging and ID'ing instrumentation, the standard was based on the concept that an instrument's function defines its tag, not...
