Power Generation Control
Diaa, As our Friendly Moderator says, in one form or another this topic has been covered many times before on control.com. You can use the Search term:<pre> +"synchronous generator"</pre>as your first attempt at finding information you may be looking for. Not knowing anything about your...

MODBUS Protocol and Solving Issues Using It
Alexandre Wipliez, MODBUS really has many different versions, and when MODBUS comes up in my work I usually have to ask how is it being used in this particular application (usage). And, to my mind there are really two basic uses of MODBUS: one is to allow different control systems to exchange...

There's also the DOS command <pre> fc</pre>If you can't find another program/application, fc can always be used to compare two ASCII text files. If there are few differences, it's a very fast method of comparison.

At the risk of starting a brouhaha if I understand your description correctly, you are correct and the method you are proposing follows most accepted practices for shield drain wire termination. However, some plants and sites have their own practices and methods, and in the end the Customer...

Uploading TC2KREPT.txt
jhonweslybangun, TC2KREPT.TXT is not required by the Mark V for operation--nor can it be downloaded to the Mark V. (IO.ASG is used by the programs that create UNITDATA.DAT, which is the "Global Data Dictionary File," whatever that is--something "left over" from the GE SMART (and) REMOTE days...

There used to be a file comparison program called BeyondCompare, and it was very useful in finding differences between files--and easy to use. I don't know if it's still available. Some ASCII text editor programs that coders (programmers) use can also do file comparisons. UltraEdit is one...

Mark V IO.ASG
Has100, I was going to refer you to the Mark V Application Manual, GEH-6195, Chapter 8, but after rereading the chapter I realize it doesn't explicitly tell a person how to identify a spare I/O point. But, there is still a lot of really good information about the process. In IO.ASG, if the...

MK5 Diagnostic alarm 0035
topcat123, This Diagnostic Alarm has been annunciated since 2011? ;-) I don't know of anything else to try. Short of replacing the DCC/SDCC, because if the Diagnostic Alarm can't be reset--either from the operator interface or from the LCC/SLCC keypad, then downloading would be the next...

Surge Phenomena
dontknowman, I've never experienced it myself. What have you experienced? Does the machine trip? F-class turbines have protective sequencing to reduce the risk of damage caused by sudden changes in compressor discharge pressure--which would likely happen when surging/stalling occurred...

topcat123, I believe the Mark V Maintenance Manual, GEH-5980, has information on the various options of the EEPROM Downloader. You can use the EEPROM Downloader to view and compare check-sums, I believe. Or, just type:<pre> EEPROM /?</pre>or<pre> EEPROM HELP</pre> for a quick explanation...

Surge Phenomena
dontknowman, Yes. Today's heavy duty gas turbines could produce more power than they currently do (I'm referring to non-F-class machines)--but the ability of the axial compressor to push more air through the machine is the limiting factor. For a long time, the limit was hot gas path materials...

Explosion While Replacing Generator's Hydrogen for CO2/Air
nosoutros, GE-design heavy duty gas turbines supplied with hydro-cooled generators that were packaged by GE USA <b>ALWAYS</b> had generic procedures for purging, charging and operating the generators. Those procedures should be the basis for any commissioning activity and plant-specific...

What if Ratchet Fails to Start After Shutdown?
Seeker1998, The bearing material commonly used in GE-design heavy duty gas turbines melts at approximately 200 deg F. Heat from wheelspaces will heat the shaft and that heat will be transmitted to the bearings. That's why it's critical to keep L.O. flowing to the bearings when the...

Mohan12111990, As for why the speed doesn't change when the unit is <b>synchronized</b> and the torque being applied to the generator from the Pelton turbines at your site, the answer is in the word "synchronization." When generators (and their prime movers) are connected to each other on a...
