Frame 9 Unstable in Premixed Mode
Hi, When did this problem start? How long since the last CI or HGPI? How long since the last off-line compressor water wash? Has the ambient temperature changed significantly in the recent weeks? Has the gas fuel make-up changed recently? Is the gas fuel supply pressure stable...

MARKV: Swapping BNC Connectors of EX2000 and MarkV HMI on CTBA Card
Mike West, What you say is very true--and it's possible when the owner has multiple turbines and multiple sites and can afford to dedicate resources and deploy them across multiple sites. But MANY turbine installations consist of a single unit, or two--sometimes three on combined-cycle...

MARKV: Swapping BNC Connectors of EX2000 and MarkV HMI on CTBA Card
The same thing you've described was happening when the EX2K is plugged into JAJ and communication between the Mark V and the EX2K is lost.

GE Gas turbine Frame 6 SFC
Sorry; I'm not familiar with that alarm. It sounds, though, like something is preventing the exciter from starting. Are there exciter alarms present before trying to start the turbine? Do exciter alarms pop up after a turbine START is initiated? That's where it's suggested to start looking...

Higher CO Emission in GT Frame 6B Gas Fired
aksunil, One more thing came to mind--entrained liquids in the gas fuel. Not likely, but stranger things have happened. If they are hydrocarbon-based (compressor lubricating oil; gasoline; diesel; etc.) or condensate from the gas temperature being too close to the dew point this could be at...

MARKV: Swapping BNC Connectors of EX2000 and MarkV HMI on CTBA Card
Esoteric_Stone, What does checking the ribbon cables include? Because this is the second thread where it's been told that the ribbon cables were checked, and then later it was told that pushing on the ribbon cables resulted in problems that resulted in replacing the cable and/or the card and...

GRID Disturbance
Basically, you haven't provided enough information to be of too much help. We don't know if both machines trip (52L AND 52G; what the island load when 52L opens; what load the machines were running at when the 52L(s) opened; what the frequency(s) of the two machines were after the 52L(s) opened...

Higher CO Emission in GT Frame 6B Gas Fired
aksunil, DLN tuning and LVDT calibration are related, but not the same thing. DLN tuning has been found to drift, particularly with ambient temperature swings. I can't explain why it didn't do so before the extender hardware was installed, and would suspect that "improvements" to the...

MARKV: Swapping BNC Connectors of EX2000 and MarkV HMI on CTBA Card
Esoteric_Stone, Yes; we have heard of the strict delineations between departments--and the problems it causes when things like this happen. And, of course, it's always the control system's fault--there are just too many wires and too many LEDs and it's just so mysterious that it MUST be the...

aksunil, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO ANSWER ALL OF THE QUESTIONS!!! That rarely happens, and it is sincerely appreciated. Unless you aware of a change in the fuel being burned in the last few months I would have to presume that something has changed with one or more of the...

Benchmarking for 9FA
otised, Long time no hear from you; good to have you back! And, why didn't he just say it was a single-shaft STAG unit? (Rhetorical question--if it is a single-shaft STAG unit. I've been hearing some odd terms used lately for CCPPs (Combined Cycle Power Plants) and I suspect this is...

Generator Synchronizing Issues and Voltage Setpoint Mismatch
bhol, I have seen an improperly wired CT cause the reactive currents to swing wildly when the cross current compensation circuit was "cut in" on two generators which were connected on the same bus ahead of a step-up transformer--but NOT the loads. Only the reactive currents; the power factor...

Higher CO Emission in GT Frame 6B Gas Fired
aksunil, What is the NOx at 20 MW during the high ambient condition? Do the units have any kind of inlet cooling (evaporative cooling; fogging; etc.)? Does the unit have Inlet Bleed Heat, and if so, is it in operation at 20 MW? Is the unit in Lean-Lean combustion mode at 20 MW or in...

Benchmarking for 9FA
mkgupta, I'm not familiar with a 1:1:1 configuration; can you please explain? Benchmarking 9FAs, in particular, should only be done when you are absolutely certain that the configurations of the machines being used in the project are all the same--that is, that they all have the same...

MARKV: Swapping BNC Connectors of EX2000 and MarkV HMI on CTBA Card
CuriousOne, Of all the cards I have replaced in Mark V control systems (and I didn't replace that many), the CTBA was one of the most common to be replaced--mostly because of the failure of the communication relays on the CTBA. Those relays, if I recall correctly, drop out when <C> is not...

GE Gas turbine Frame 6 SFC
Sikandar7641, There are GE-design Frame 6B heavy duty gas turbines, and GE-design Frame 6FA heavy duty gas turbines. So, a "Frame 6" is not like every other "Frame 6." I have only ever seen LCIs (Load Commutated Inverters, or SFC (Static Frequency Converters)) used on Frame 6FA turbines...

Esoteric_Stone, Hmmm.... Don't think I understand the question or the issue. Let me preface my comments by saying I'm not very familiar with EX2000 excitation systems, but I have troubleshot and resolved lots of StatusS and StageLink communication issues over the years. There are two BNC...
