Vibration Alarm But No Vibration on Bentely Nevada 3500
Hello, Once again, I'm confused. I'm not very familiar with B-N software, but I suspect it's a configuration issue--the card can be and has been configured differently than the software used on the HMI, which by the way is very non-standard for GE Mark V HMIs. Just because a bar-graph turns...

Increasing VAR Output of a Machine or Decreasing VAR Requirement of the System
amritanshup, It's not all that common for power producers to be asked to "consume" leading VArs, and when they are it's been my experience that a synchronous condenser is a better choice for such applications. There's something we're not being told about this application and the grid voltage...

Mark V Studio
Hello, "Tiring" is a word I've never heard used to describe troubleshooting a Mark V. Difficult. Impossible. Maddening. Frustrating. Tortuous. Hard. Complicated. Confusing. But never tiring; I'll have to remember that! A lot of people use Mark V Studio--it's a really slick, fast and powerful...

Generator voltage
Hmmmm..... When a gas turbine employs an LCI (static starter) as a starting means, the generator is not connected directly to the grid during starting. It is excited (because every motor needs two magnetic fields to operate) and the LCI provides a variable frequency at a lower than rated...

Problem with Velocity Sensor in GasTurbine
Thanks for replying to all of the questions. If this has been ongoing since commissioning, it's very likely the sensor has failed. Have you asked the turbine supplier to replace the sensor under warranty? I have seen vibration sensors permanently damaged by trying to "stimulate" them...

MARK V CSP
Maatallah_3107, I can't understand your question. Are you talking about differences in searching using Dynamic Rung Display versus a paper hard copy? If you're using a printed "hard copy" of the CSP printout (CSP.PRN), there is another document you need to have printed out: CSP_XREF.PRN...

The meaning of TNGV
Neo, I was very remiss for not telling you to check the Control Specification for information on this function. Usually, Sect. 06.nn.nn is for IGV control, and it's possible some cryptic description that we could use to develop a better understanding is in one of the sub-sections of Sect. 06...

Wheel Space thermocouples problems
Controman, Without being able to see how and where the T/Cs are separating, it's pretty difficult to say what the reason is for the damage. The guide tubes for the T/Cs are subjected to some very high temperatures, and if there are leaks of joints allowing hot combustion gases to impinge on the...

Flame Scanner Not Showing Flame
sanjib_dibrugarh, You say: "... DC voltage to field 315 VDC is not coming from Mark VIe panel." Do you mean you measured it at the flame detector end of the cable only--or also at the Mark VIe terminals? When did this problem start? During commissioning, or sometime afterwards? Have you...

Problem with Velocity Sensor in GasTurbine
sanjib_dibrugarh, What have you done to troubleshoot this problem? When did this problem start? During commissioning of the Mark VIe? After some mechanical maintenance work was done on the #2 bearing or the reduction/load gear? Are there any vibration sensors on the reduction/load gear...

350 kva generator
Jacob, What does the generator instruction manual say is causing the alarm? I'm totally guessing here, but what is the generator terminal voltage when the unit reaches rated speed? If it's very low, then that could be the cause of the under voltage alarm condition--which would mean that...

Why is TTRXB > TTK0_I for CPD < TTK0_C?
cactus_chris, Thanks for the kind words. I'm just trying to 'pay it back' for the knowledge and information people shared with me when I was just getting started. Without the patience and kindness of a couple of people in particular, I would not be able to do what I can today--and I'm forever...

Calculate Gas Consumption Per Hour
Dear KHAITRI, If GE was the supplier of the control system, there is usually a document titled 'Control Specification' provided with the turbine (older turbines sometimes had three sections of the 'Control Specification' while newer units (including control system upgrades) usually only have...

The meaning of TNGV
Neo, I'd need to see the application code to make a reasonable comment; I've not seen TNGV before that I can recall. I imagine that TNGV is used for some IGV control bias under extreme conditions--but that's just a SWAG (Scientific Wild-Arsed Guess). As for XCHANNEL, well, requisition...

Two GT parallel operation, load hunting
It's very interesting that you completely neglected to tell us how much the frequency changes and if it goes high or low during the disturbance. How long has this problem been occurring? If it has started recently, what has changed between the time the two units were operating properly and...

Results of Losing Second Liquid Fuel When Gas Turbine Operates on Dual Fuel
Yes, exactly. Machines which run on HFO must almost ALWAYS be started and stopped on LDO for the reasons Glenmaorangie listed. HFO can rarely be used for starting because it is difficult to atomize at ambient temperatures and must be heated to improve atomization--which is difficult at low...

Vibration Alarm But No Vibration on Bentely Nevada 3500
djafer, Thrust is not vibration, though both can be measured using proximity probes. The difference is that when measuring vibration the proximity probe looks at the shaft and when looking at thrust the proximity probe looks at a thrust bearing "runner" (usually). When measuring vibration the...

GE 9E Gas Turbine Dry Cleaning

Why is TTRXB > TTK0_I for CPD < TTK0_C?
cactus_chris, I'm sort of following what you're trying to describe, and I can say I don't recall ever running across the Control Constant CEKGVBMX. It probably goes without saying but if the actual exhaust temperature is above the calculated curve, whether it's below the corner (_C) or...
