Air Flow Increment After Loading GE Fr.9E
Maythem, I believe you are suffering from a common belief that gas turbine control systems are always measuring and optimizing air/fuel (or fuel/air) ratios at all times during all phases of operation, and that's just not true. Again, there are ranges of air/fuel (fuel/air) mixtures which...

Synchronize Three CAT G399s
I don't have any experience with the exact equipment you are working on, but this may help to point you in the proper direction. If the three gen-sets are all connected to a common bus without any transformer/impedance between them then the problem is likely with the excitation ("AVR") system...

Time That The Unit Must Remain In Turning Gear, Before Start
>To be competitive by reducing the startup time for >start-ups in real time, the toner unit is the critical path. >Reducing this time is gained in competitiveness. I completely agree--the toner unit is the key. Always use the OEM's toner unit, unless a third-party toner unit offers a...

Frame 6B Overhaul
Davidmcc, Do you belong to the Frame 6 Users Group? I would think you would have the best chance of finding such drawings from that group. If I recall correctly, those were EGT-packaged units, and the generators were Alsthom or some other non-GE vendor (perhaps Linz (sp?)). It would...

Compressor Rubbing
LK Fai, You say you borescoped the unit last year--but you didn't say how long the unit had been in this peaking mode of service before the borescope inspection.... If the turbine was running and hot when this happened and cold CO2 came into contact with the compressor casing, this could...

Solar Inverter Error Islanding Passive
Kataeb, When did this problem start? Immediately upon initial power-up/commissioning? Or, just recently? If the problem started just recently, what is the newest load (motor, computer, refrigerator, microwave, etc.) to be added to the system? Was there a lightning strike/electrical...

Compressor Rubbing
Hello, This is (primarily) a controls-related forum. To the extent that mechanical field devices and instruments are part and parcel of the control system we occasionally engage in discussions about mechanical issues--but this one is far outside the scope of control system-related field...

Relationship Between GT Speed And Liquid Fuel Recirculation Line Pressure And Flow During Gas Fuel Start Up
balamurugan1983, The liquid fuel recirculation system, its components and its operating philosophy/sequencing is an emerging process and technology. As such, nearly every one that is sold is a one-off in that as new things are learned from the operating experience of previous systems new...

Calculation Of The Average Exhaust Temp (TTXM) In Frame 9E
AhmedWaleed, All of these questions have been asked and answered several times on control.com. All of the past threads are stored in the 'Archives' and can be accessed using the cleverly-hidden 'Search' feature at the far right of every Menu bar in the desktop version of control.com. (It's...

Increasing VAR Output of a Machine or Decreasing VAR Requirement of the System
amritanshup, Here's a link to a website about power factor, and there's a webpage for PF Capacitor, which you should find useful: http://www.the-power-factor-site.com/Powerfactorcorrectioncapacitor.html When it comes to generators--that is, from the generator perspective (at the...

IRIG-B Wiring
Actually, I would suggest you be proactive and determine what kind of input "connection" your PC system can accept for a time master signal, and then help to choose/specify a master time signal generator with a compatible output type. And, then you can also order the appropriate cable at the...

GE Control System Toolbox V11.07
RussB, Under the "new" organization, does one get Toolbox from the same group that provides CIMPLICITY/PROFICY/PROFICY Machine Edition? Does GE-Salem fall under GE-IP now? By copy to shakaramiali, I don't believe there's any place to download this software from (legally), unless you're a...

Increasing VAR Output of a Machine or Decreasing VAR Requirement of the System
amritanshup, I think there are some issues with terms and usage here. Real power is watts, or kw, or MW--the power producing tangible work (watts can converted to HP). It is the side adjacent to the hypotenuse of the power triangle, usually called "P." Reactive power is power that...

Air Flow Increment After Loading GE Fr.9E
Maythem, Yes, the axial compressor is running at a constant speed when synchronized to a well-regulated grid. But, the IGVs on most GE-design Frame 9E heavy duty gas turbines do change with load--opening to increase air flow. (The compressor bleed valves are only open to prevent...

Combustion Trouble at Low Load on HFO Fuel
AhmedWaleed, HFO is usually pretty obnoxious fuel, and I believe you've mentioned it might be crude oil at your site. That means there are all manner of contaminants which will be flowing through the liquid fuel system, including rocks, sand, heavy metals, etc. Some of these can make it through...
