Exhaust Thermocouple is Showing -18 0c in MarkV
As GRajesh has suggested use the LCC/SLCC display and keypad to determine the I/O States of all of <S>'s cards. More than likely, there's a problem with the TCQA card. When did this problem start? After a card in <S> was replaced? After <S> was re-booted? After a turbine trip? If a card was...

20HD Energization in MKVIe
Haroon, Thank you for the feedback! The next time that happens, try rebooting the PPROs. The unit is off-line anyway, so it can't trip the unit. My best presumption is that something happened with turbine speed inputs to the PPROs during shutdown; that is a two-shaft machine and...

Droop Control on Steam Turbine
stor138, I believe that most industrial steam turbines with extraction control, including non-condensing (back-pressure) units, should have droop speed control active at all times--except, possibly, when the unit is running at "Base Load" (rated power output selected and the governor is...

Haroon, Actually you have a [Semi] DUAL redundant system, which is a hybrid SIMPLEX system. When a turbine is at zero speed, if I recall correctly the RUN LED is red, and that's because the PPRO isn't seeing any speed. So, that shouldn't be a problem (presuming the unit is at zero speed!)...

DSLC from Woodward Not Operate in Droop?
When a governor is switched from Isoch to Droop, there is usually logic to capture the current operating condition (load; Droop speed reference (which is often calculated even when running on Isoch--for tracking and transfer purposes)) and keeps the load stable once on Droop control mode. If...

20HD Energization in MKVIe
Haroon, When I make recommendations about procedures, they always presume there are no active trips. I guess I need to be stating that clearly from now on. And, as much as I intensely dislike--and I do INTENSELY DISLIKE it--asking if you've tried clicking on 'Master Reset', have you...

20HD Energization in MKVIe
Haroon, ComposTrips come from the PPROs. Something in the E-Stop P/B circuit, or one of the discrete trip inputs to the SPROs/TPROs is open. I've seen this happen when the panel is a SIMPLEX panel and they wire trip inputs like something from the fire protection to the <P> cards. BUT, there...

DAMENE, The question was not inappropriate; it's just something I hadn't considered. Actually, I've fallen into a very bad habit of not asking about Diagnostic Alarms. They really are helpful, and can be indicative of hardware--as well as software--problems. But, so many people have just...

Flame Detector Cable
G.Rajesh, You didn't say specifically how the #4 flame detector wire (cable) was damaged, or where along it's length it was damaged. As long as they are protected from the heat of the turbine compartment, usually, they last for the life of the turbine--it's usually melted insulation or...

Thermocouple Cable for Signal
G.Rajesh, In a pinch (in a temporary emergency situation--of a few hours or a few days duration at most) it might be possible to use T/C extension cable in place of normal twisted, shielded pair wiring for the devices you have mentioned. They are conductors, but they aren't intended for high...

Haroon, Congratulations! It's very likely there is a logic signal name something like l20hd1, or l20hd1x. (Lower-case signal names are supposed to indicate an input or output of the Mark VIe--when they are correctly named). You will likely need to force l20hd1 (or l20hd1x) to a logic...

Flow Transmitter Values for Gas Turbine
abdi, First, it might help (very much) if you told us the manufacturer of the HAR<b>T</b> multivariable transmitter you were working on. Second, if you have six multivariable transmitters, all reading values from the same flow tube/orifice and the same gas temperature and pressure...

Starting a Synchronous Motor
As for power factor, well, that's kind of the interesting thing about synchronous motors. They can have leading or lagging power factors--when running as a synchronous motor, just by varying the excitation. When starting, if they have amortisseur windings they will have a lagging power...

Trip Log Display on Speedtronic Mark 5
Damene, > Is there a cards to replace on the Speedtronic Mark 5? to resolve this problem. Odd you should ask this question. Is the <C> DCC/SDCC card annunciating a log of memory-related Diagnostic Alarms? <C> likely gets this information via the DENET. Use the information in the Mark V...

Mark VI and Mark VIe
voyager2_kbc, ToolboxST is the software used to configure and monitor and troubleshoot Mark VIe turbine control panels. It's similar to Toolbox, and if you're comfortable with Toolbox it shouldn't take you very long to get comfortable with ToolboxST. There's still a Trend Recorder, a Dynamic...

Combining Wires in Conduit
fel flores, The real problem is if the current flowing through the 220 VAC circuit is "high" and/or switching. What's high current? In my opinion, anything above approximately 3-4 Amperes, and it's worse if it's switching (on and off, say for starting a small induction motor). If the...

Turbomach Taurus 60 Gas turbine Speed Deviation Fault
farikhem, I'm not too familiar with Solar turbine controls (though I am endeavouring to learn more), but there are a few basic things to check. Speed pick-ups usually fall into one of two categories: active or passive. Active speed pick-ups require an external power source (often, 24 VDC)...

Starting a Synchronous Motor
Hello, The simple answer to your question is that, depending on size, many synchronous motors can't be started just by applying the excitation (usually DC voltage) to the rotor and then applying AC voltage to the stator. Large synchronous motors just can't develop sufficient torque this way...

Gas Turbine Efficiency/Power Output vs Relative Humidity and Specific Humidity
bkarim55, I, too, looked at a couple of my gas turbine reference books, and the issue for me is the "difference" between relative- and specific humidity and their effects on performance, which is what the original post was about. As I said, a couple of the on-line calculators I...
