Purging Carbon Dioxide from cooling system
Hello, You have not defined the conditions of purging. If someone is to be "entering" or accessing areas of the generator that would have CO2 it would be best to purge the CO2.

Drop test
Hi, Do you mean drop test, or droop test? If you drop it and it breaks, then it has to be repaired. If you test the droop and it droops it's okay as long as the droop doesn't exceed the droop setpoint, or doesn't under-exceed the setpoint. In other words, the droop should be equal to...

Tripping on L86GCVT in MARK VI
Piloting mechanisms and skirted control valves are not the same devices. GE, and it's packagers, have used a variety of different types of valves as Stop-Ratio Valves (SRVs) over the years, including the combined SRV/GCV assemblies (of which there were two types: one used primarily for Frame...

Number of CO2 cylinders required to fill generator
Have you read the manual provided by the generator manufacturer or the packager of the generator and turbine to learn their recommendations/suggestions? I often get asked this question because the number of cylinders exceeds--sometimes greatly--the generator manufacturer's...

SRV not a zero with 0% command
yoga, What I'm saying is the Mark V doesn't care what the zero-stroke voltage is or what the 100% stroke voltage is--AS LONG AS THE VOLTAGE FEEDBACK BETWEEN THEM IS LINEAR. A lot of people believe the Mark V MUST see 0.700 VAC RMS at zero stroke and that's SIMPLY NOT...

GT fuel nozzle
Black, The best source of information is always the Service (sometimes called O&M) Manuals provided with the turbine and auxiliaries. While it may not be easy to find, one can usually find a lot of other interesting information while searching the Parts Manual for information on the fuel...

Field Instrument Power Loop Malfunction
Nasser, This is not abnormal behaviour for many control systems. As you say, it's working correctly. It's just not what you would expect, but the best source of information would be Triconex.

Compressor stall detection algorithm
HMR, Unfortunately, if I recall correctly axial compressor stall detection is accomplished in firmware (i.e., at the VME card level) and so the algorithm is not generally visible in Toolbox. I think some newer versions of Toolbox and Mark VI may have an "algorithm" in application code, but...

Power factor, frequency and load
Manmeet Singh, Load sharing or a power management system would be a good solution, but if you could get some advance notification from the plant that would be helpful for operators who, if they had some training, might be better able to respond. Can any of the turbines operate in...

alarm.horn signal in Mark VIe
Demigrog, There were some early Mark VIe's with early versions of WorkstationST that used CIMPLICITY 6.1 and some of them used the CIMPLICITY Alarm Viewer and some the WorkstationST Alarm Viewer. Kwaku hasn't really told us exactly what his configuration is.... So, we can't really be of...

SRV not a zero with 0% command
Jeff Ladwig, I don't recognize the type of SRV you are describing. I also don't understand what you mean when you say the Mark V is configured to look for 0.700 volts at zero stroke. The Mark V doesn't care what the zero-stroke voltage is as long as the feedback is linear. The LVDTs GE...

TM2500/ PT Magnetic speed pic-up failure
Woodward Technical support has always been very helpful when I've had to contact them. I won't say I always liked the answers I got (which conflicted with their documentation in several cases) but they were almost always able to offer some useful insights or work-arounds. Please let us know...

How does Gas Turbine Generator Output Change when GT Frequency Changes
know-how, A generator is a device for converting torque into amperes, which can be transmitted using wires to remote locations to perform work (motors; lights; computers and computer monitors (virtual work)). Since the speed of the gas turbine has not changed (the input to the reduction...

Gas turbine rotor coupling sheared
Assyibek Mumhanov, From the information provided it would seem the frequency was low prior to the coupling breaking (because you indicated speed and frequency increased after the shearing and the "incoming breaker") did not trip. So, it would appear the unit was probably in some kind of...

alarm.horn signal in Mark VIe
Thank you, Demigrog. But I don't think Kwaku understands that to silence (stop) an audible alarm indication it's necessary to use ALARM SILENCE. And, unfortunately, it seems GE has shipped an HMI with a non-working ALARM SILENCE button/target. Acknowledging alarms doesn't silence (stop) the...

free rotor & ratchet
abdi, My guess is this was translated from another language, and "turning down" really means 'turning gear' or similar. I can tell you--it's overkill (translation: too complicated and involved). It would be VERY unlikely that the rotor would still be unable to be rotated in 48 hours...

GE Frame 5 and Mark II upgrade
Hello, Pitfalls? You'll have the usual pitfalls with any modern retrofit, most notably the HMI displays will consume three or four times the estimated effort (and cost) unless you are very firm with the contract, stating any changes after initial approval will be at normal field...

Kwaku, I note this is the second time you've posted a similar query. I also note that you seem to have been editing CIMPLICITY displays, and possibly making changes to the EGD.... As with all things HMI-related, GE is constantly "evolving" their product (without documentation). So, unless...

GT-ST Single shaft configuration
