Torque Convertor Operation

Teaching Moment
For anyone reading this post, this is a perfect ("textbook") example of the majority of problems for just about any system or piece of equipment experiencing problems. Something changed. After something changed problems were experienced. The problems are...

Hydraulic ratchet G.E Frame 5 mark 5
magdy, Is the problem with ratcheting of the unit while on cooldown, or during starting? I'm very confused. I'm not quite clear exactly what you are referring to. There is a jaw clutch with teeth on each half of the clutch used to connected the output of the torque converter to the...

high exhust temperature spread trip
SIMPLEX panels are somewhat unique. If it's a typical Mark VI Speedtronic SIMPLEX panel then it's very likely at least some of the exhaust T/Cs are connected to the
core for a kind of back-up combustion monitor and OT protection. The TTXSPL number you provided is unbelievable. When ever a...

Torque Convertor Operation
Hi! I have never seen an AUMA Torque Converter, but I have seen AUMA Torque Adjustor mechanisms used on Voith torque converters. Functionally, the AUMA mechanism is identical to the Siemens mechanism, but there are some small differences. Adjustment of the limit switches is very important...

G.Rajesh, You would need to look at the drawings (mechanical drawings) for the LVDT actuator and guide ring to understand how the mechanical stops are set and could be adjusted. The stops are different for different types of actuators and machines. But the stops are usually adjustable...

Torque Convertor Operation
Hi! WHEN DID THIS PROBLEM START? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO TRY TO TROUBLESHOOT AND RESOLVE THE PROBLEM? WHAT WERE THE RESULTS OF YOUR TROUBLESHOOTING? Has it been occurring since commissioning? Did it start after a maintenance outage? You should know that newer GE-design heavy duty...

Generator Hydrogen Cooling System
Get the specifications and data sheet from Siemens, or whomever manufactures the generators Siemens uses. They are the best guidelines, unless someone here has experience, and even then you never know all of the story (leaks; piping/volume differences; scavenging rates; etc.).

high exhust temperature spread trip
What fuel is being burned? What is the allowable spread (TTXSPL) at Base Load? What is TTXSP1 at Base Load? What is TTXSP2 at Base Load? What is TTXSP3 at Base Load? What alarms (Process- and Diagnostic Alarms) are present immediately before the trip? How long after reaching...

How do I Tackle "MEGAWATT TRANSDUCER SIGNAL TROUBLE"
We have no idea if the unit has a Mark V or a Mark VI Speedtronic turbine control system. It's not likely that this particular alarm will cause the generator breaker to open (trip), but if the megawatt transducer feedback signal is going negative for some time then it could cause the...

Mark 5 Hard Disk Drive Crash
Oh, there's so many things wrong with the descriptions in this post, but, we shall move on anyway. The easiest thing to do in this case is to take the new hard drive, once formatted and properly partitioned (a PC of that vintage will never properly recognize a 3GB hard drive partition) and...

Gas turbine power generation frame 6 load output
I'm not quite sure I understand the question, or, rather the intent of the question. But, here goes. The speed of a GE-design heavy duty gas turbine driving a synchronous generator that is being operated on a large or infinite grid in parallel with other prime movers and generators is fixed...

The answer to this kind of question depends on many factors. The size of the generator casing, including the gas-water heat exchangers, drain enlargement tanks, and associated piping. Also, the scavenging rate (the amount of gas vented from the seal drain enlargement tanks to remove entrained...

Great questions (no high-level maths required to answer them!)! A torque converter is a means for controlling the amount of torque being transmitted from one device to another. In your case, a starting means (electric induction motor running at a relatively constant speed) is required to...

G.Rajesh, Thank you for the link to the document. It must be nice to work for a company that has so much money to be able to afford such a servo tester. In addition to the cost to purchase the servo tester, there is going to be the cost to train at least one person (and what if that one...
