Forced balance temperature transmitter span calibration
If it's a true force balance transmitter, the style with the diaphragms stacked on "top' of one another (on the same center axis) with an obvious zero adjustment on the 'top', like the old Taylor 200T, then the span adjustment was at opposite end of the zero adjustment, at the bottom, as it...

Problem with copco MKIV gateway using rs 485 to rs 232 communication
I've heard that JBus is a minor derivative of Modbus, but I had never heard that the CAN protocol has any resemblance to Modbus. Are you sure the device's protocol is CAN? I don't know what Windmill is, but SimplyModbus talks Modbus, not CAN. You cannot expect that a Modbus master...

Thermocouple Extension wire and thermocouple type mismatch
The bad data from mixing wire types makes me shudder. You can't dig up some J wire to do it right the first time? How many points? How much J wire? More than 100 feet/30m total? A local controls distributor doesn't have a roll of J wire you can buy with petty cash? Here in the USA...

modbus floating point format
I love Banner Engineering's documentation because they explicitly provide the format and then give an example. Very wise. The data below are from Banner's wireless node radio with four RTDs, document 155864, page 7. Holding Register Representation: Min. (Dec) -32768 Max. (Dec) 32767...

Cables For 4-20ma signal from Transducer to SCADA Interface Panel
Why not? According to my chart, 1 mm2 is a size somewhere between 18 and 16 AWG. That's more than sufficient to 20mA over 50m.

Communication between a HART transmitter using DRUCK DPI 610 24 voltage power source
We must have found different manuals on the web. The manual I found for the Druck DPI 610 (User manual - K0415) shows that the Druck sources a pressure, powers a loop powered transmitter, and reads and displays the 4-20mA loop current. The wiring for powering the loop (current sourcing) from...

Differential Pressure Teasing Question
No, the DP across an orifice plate will diminish as the static pressure equilibrate in its closed volume when the valves are closed. Let me venture a guess as to why you're asking - a DP transmitter indicates a flow when the valves are shut off. Several things to consider: - the DP...

HART communication
The limitation is a HART 5 limitation, according to the HART Foundation's HART Communication Application Guide, my copy dated March 2010. "The multidrop mode of operation requires only a single pair of wires and, if applicable, safety barriers and an auxiliary power supply for up to 15 field...

Modbus rtu over rs232, Master sending requests continuously
The diagram on page 4 of the Modbus Application Protocol Specification V1.1b shows the client initiating a request, the server processing the request and initiating a response, and then the Client receiving the server's response. While the standard might not explicitly state that the master...

Voltage drops in a 2 wire transmitter
> 24v DC i/p is given from PLC I'm confused. An I/P should be connected to a PLC analog output that is compatible with the I/P's input; typically a 4-20mA output. If you are connecting 24Vdc to the I/P input, then remove the power supply. An I/P is not a 4 wire device designed to operate...

IS Barrier Circuit
The Whessoe 01146 spec sheet says ATEX approval: - Category: Ex II 2(1)G - Marking: EEx d[ia]IIB T6 I read that as a flameproof design, EX d, with some element that is intrinsically safe [ia]. On a servo gauge, the I/S element is likely to be an I/S 4-20mA output. But apparently...

HART Pass Through IO Cards
One might assume that any HART enabled analog input card would be able to deal with the primary variable from a field transmitter, just like a non-HART enabled AI card gets the process variable via a 4-20mA signal. The AI card's connection to the HART field device makes the AI card the portal...

PLC Rack Layout
In 30 years, I have never encountered a blind or illiterate PLC technician. If the techs at your plant can see and read, wouldn't a label on each rack, something simple along the lines of Rack 0, Rack 1 or Rack 2, eliminate the mystery of which rack is which?

Communicating using a RS-485 device to ASCII or Modbus
The manual says that the module defaults to Modbus RTU on power-up (pg 45). The mode can be changed from Modbus to character based (pg 33). The AA characters (in the character string) represent the module address in the character based comm mode. That would indicate that character based...

Alpha Omega TEC controller series 800
Software and RS-232 in today's world means using a USB/RS-232 converter, unless you're using an older PC. The software probably defaults to COM 1 and it's not likely that a USB/RS-232 converter is on COM 1. A USB converter's RS-232 COM port installs as a virtual COM port on a Windows box...
