Announcement - ChatGPT and AI Answers on the Forum

As you are all undoubtedly aware, we are seeing more online content generated by chatbots and AI chat applications than ever before.

Here on the Control.com forum, our goal has always been and always will be, to provide valuable engineering advice from the minds and experience of real engineers to help solve the most pressing and urgent questions.

While some of the questions are general topics, many of them are quite specific, requiring similarly detailed, specific answers. AI generators are limited to publically available information or previously stored database searches. Many have been found to provide information that is far too generic, or in some cases, even incorrect and misleading!

Our duty here is not to be the 'solution police' and therefore, we have decided we will not pursue the route of deleting posts or removing members who post using AI generated text, as this would create an accusatory environment, encouraging hostility which we do not wish to have. We encourage the use of any and all available tools to provide accurate answers.

However, at the same time, preserving the integrity of this forum is very important to us, so we have established guidelines that we respectfully request our users to follow:
  • If you can add useful content and answers using AI generated text, it will not be prohibited.
  • If AI generated text cannot provide actual, useful, practical advice, please do not post it here.
  • If you cannot verify the accuracy of AI generated text through your own experience, please do not post it here.
  • If you see a post that appears to be very generic, or it contains misleading information, please help to teach and correct the other thread members, while encouraging better practices next time.

As always, we want people to learn, and if an AI answer is better than no answer at all, then so be it. But your experience and knowledge is what makes you such a valuable part of our community, and it's the reason why so many tens of thousands of engineers around the world turn to YOU for help. Please do not dilute this incredible community with posts and answers that fail the lead an engineer to a better solution and personal growth to tackle new, exciting future challenges!

If any AI applications should evolve, or any new changes are noticed in our forums, we reserve the right to change or update this policy as needed.

While AI chatbots are getting better every day, they still don't have the depth of specialized engineering knowledge that comes from years of hands-on experience. And even if they pull information from public databases, that's no substitute for an engineer who understands the nuances of a specific problem and can make recommendations based on their own career learnings.
