Hi,

I am interested where the automation specialists are located in the organizational structure of the enterprise (especially in the food industry).

Is this always a maintenance department or are there separate departments responsible for creating/maintaining contractor selection, comissioning, documentation and other enterprise standards/specifications? Are there organizational units like "Automation", "Industrial IT/EDP" or others responsible for the above tasks?

Thank you in advance for all answers.

Dear sir,

In most organizations, there is an Electrical & Instrumentation department (E&I), which looks after the installation and commissioning of field instruments & Control system activities.

Thanks & Regards,

In the past the automation gurus have usually been in the Engineering departments. Around 2000 or so, coupled with the HEAVY dependance on computers, SCAD, HMI, etc. a greater portion of us have been moved into the IT or IS organizations. I have worked for a very large food company and that is the case there.
