Control valves flow characteristic

I would like to get a practical and realistic guideline to select the flow characteristic for a control valve depending on the application (flow/pressure/level control, dP...) and taking into account the dynamic response of the valve.

The manufacturer of the valve has the best information. All valves have different characteristic and different application guidelines (since they are application specific).
