My client is insisting on Zone 2 certification for DCS/PLC cards installed in a area identified as Non-Hazardous area (as per Hazardous area classification) having air - conditioner also. The location is offshore and unmanned gas platform. The clients argument is that in case of Air Condition failure the temperature inside the cabinet will increase which will lead to increase in surface temperature of the panel. The panel itself is not Zone 2 certified, Terminals are fused/knife edge/power supply packs are not certified, then does it really mean any thing to give a Zone 2 certified DCS/PLC card?

In your case it is nevertheless to go on Zone 2 certified h/w of DCS & PLC till implementing higher IP Protected cabinets with higher spec accessories to work in Marine platforms which complies DNV standards.
