Fast Communication with a Secure Design
The new Anybus Communicators, powered by the award-winning industrial network processor by HMS Networks, Anybus NP40, feature enhanced reliability and performance. These new gateways deliver high-speed data transfers up to 10 times faster than the previous models, allowing for streamlined operation in demanding industrial environments. The latest hardware and software featured in the new solution also offer enhanced data handling, allowing the gateways to transfer up to 1,448 bytes of data to and from connected PLCs, improving data exchange between networks.
Built to withstand harsh conditions in industrial environments, the new Anybus Communicators are designed with robust IP20 components verified against UL and CE standards. Regarding security, these new gateways boast a physical security switch that allows only authorized individuals to make configuration changes. Secure boot functionality protects the gateways from malware attacks and cybersecurity threats, maintaining the integrity of the network.
Additionally, the new Anybus Communicators offers advanced network security through data segmentation, adding a critical layer of protection by controlling essential data flow and blocking unauthorized traffic. This level of protection makes the new gateways valuable assets in a wide range of industrial applications, even where protocol conversion is unnecessary.

User-Friendly Installations and Configuration
The new Anybus Communicators feature a compact DIN rail mountable design for simplified installation and a forward-facing port that reduces wiring requirements by allowing close installation of connected devices. A web-based GUI enables users to configure the gateways using an intuitive drag-and-drop interface that can be accessed through a dedicated Ethernet port. The GUI also offers real-time diagnostics and traffic monitoring on the gateway’s network. To further streamline the set-up process, the new solution also features a built-in QR code, providing step-by-step installation and configuration instructions regardless of whether the local equipment is offline.
The new Anybus Communicators are offered customized options for specific requirements, including OEM branding and pre-configuration options for specialized applications. Available off the shelf as ready-to-install units, the new solutions ensure that a wide range of industrial communication needs are catered to.
Practical Use Cases of the Anybus Communicators
Anybus Communicators are ideal for interconnecting PROFINET and EtherNet/IP control systems in automation and manufacturing environments. The communicators also allow customization of OEM requirements. Accounting for a significant global market share of 23% for the PROFIINET industrial network and 21% for the EtherNet/IP industrial network, the widespread use of these industrial networks is also faced with an increase in the need for secure and high-performance gateways.
According to the Anybus Gateway Product Manager at HMS Networks, Fredrik Brynolf, the new communicators offer secure and easy means to interconnect industrial networks in a control system. This and its enhanced features make the solution a go-to choice for industries seeking to improve connectivity and optimize their operations.
