Turck Releases a New HF Read/Write Device for Compact RFID Tracking

February 27, 2024 by Bob Odhiambo

Turck has recently announced a new RFID solution that comes in a compact design, with variations for standalone and expandable networks in an industry-friendly cylindrical M12 form factor.

A global leader in industrial automation solutions, Turck, has recently announced their latest product line, the new HF read/write head which comes in a compact M12 design that makes integration in confined industrial spaces easy. The new RFID technology offers a miniature solution that delivers high precision that further streamlines factory automation processes.

Key Features of the HF Read/Write Head

Turck's HF read/write head comes in compact 12 mm threaded barrel sizes that allow easy installation in different environmental setups. Available in four different variants, the threaded barrel HF series also comes with a flush and non-flush face design, with a sensing range of up to 17 or 37 mm, depending on the respective face type.

Additionally, Turck's new RFID solution boasts a complimentary small-format in-metal tag that allows for small-space installation and is in compliance with radio communication and protocol standards, including ISO 15693 NFC Typ 5. For durability, the new HF head has a chrome-plated brass housing design with an IP67 protection rating that makes it withstand harsh environmental setups.

Available in the bus mode version, the HF read/write head reduces the price for read/write position as it allows up to 32 HF read/write devices to connect to one RFID interface port. With extreme operating temperatures ranging from –25 to 70℃, the new RFID solutions from Turck can be installed, even in extreme industrial environments. When it comes to approvals and certifications, the new solution boasts CE, FCC, IC, UL, and MIC compliance certifications that ensure it adheres to regulatory standards.

Equipped with an M12 x 1 connector that connects via BL indent extension cable, the HF read/write head also establishes operation and powering through a BL indent interface module.

Turck’s BL Ident System

BL ident is the name of Turck’s lineup of products for identification applications. These include the sensors and read/write devices (such as this new M12 form factor series) and adapters that convert RFID codes to networkable data packets. The ident family includes products for both HF (high frequency: 13.56 MHz) and UHF (ultra-high frequency: 840 to 960 MHz) bandwidths.

The HF Read/Write Head’s Applications

The new compact M12 HF read/write heads can be installed in manufacturing industries, logistics, and inventory management. From tracking tools on floors of factories to warehouse inventory management, the space efficiency and precise identification capabilities of the new RFID solution enhance the productivity and performance efficiency of these industrial operations.

As RFID technology keeps improving, engineers also seek solutions that best fit the specifications of space efficiency and precision in its operations. Solutions like Turck's new M12 HF read/write sensors come with features that promise precision and enhanced performance posing as a potential choice for those seeking similar RFID technology.
