Hi There,

Just wanted to get confirmation from you guys that if I have an ATEX JB, I can not drill a hole for my cable gland, else certification will be nullified.

Somebody told me that ATEX certification can be retained if the one drilling is prequalified by the JB manufacturer.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Marlon

I don't think it will matter with the atex certfication, however if it is an Ex or An IS JB then it will make a dfference to the classification.

Hi There,
What certification does it have?

If it's Eex e or Eex n there is nothing to stop you drilling the gland plate provided you do not exceed the max number of entries per gland plate

A junction box (empty) on its own cannot be certified other than have an IP rating as it's the components that are installed inside the box that required to be certified. If on the other hand you have a fully certified enclosure from a supplier they should provide you with a copy of the ATEX certification which would detail the limitations on the use of this box.

If it is Eex d then that is another matter these can only be modified by the manufacturer.

If you consider that Junction Boxes are normally supplied with gland plates that are not drilled how would you be able to install the cables unless you drilled the plate.

Remember that the new gland needs to comply with the ATEX & IP rating

Hope this helps
