We have a large deployed base of Siemens S5 PLCs communicating with I/O and drives using the Sinec L2 DP protocol. This is the Siemens proprietary version prior to the DP Standard which has become the Profibus-DP open protocol.
My project is to migrate to the S7 platform. I would like to upgrade the processors first then the I/O and drives.
We have been able to migrate I/O only systems to S7 as the 318-MB12 cards can be used on both protocols.
Has anyone worked with a gateway or DP/DP coupler that can bridge the two protocols? Our bigger PLCs have mixed I/O and drives on the same bus.
