Making sense of a Modbus register
If your master/client poll started at address 0x0300, then the first reported 16 bit value is from 0x0300. The question is which value is 0x0301? The documentation is confusing. The documentation's column labeled "length" states the value 2 for each of the registers. If length means the...

Same pipeline V-Cone meters for argon gas giving different reading.
1. We have to assume, because it is not stated, that there is no outlet between the two flow meters, no means of consuming the gas between the two meters. Is that true? 2. I would assume that if the design static pressure values were used for calculating the spec'd DP/flow rate for the...

Level Measurement for Liquefied Hydrogen
The pressure in a tube/pipe, that is flowing enough gas/air to bubble into a liquid column, will equal the hydrostatic head pressure of the liquid column above the bottom of the tube/pipe. The pressure transmitter measures the gas/air pressure in the tube and can be at any realistic elevation...

tmr circuits for voted 4-20 ma outputs
No experience with any of this equipment, but SIL logic has some common traits. The relay logic shows 3 DO channels, R, S and T Each channel drives its own internal driver. Two of the three DO channels have to be active to trigger the final output. For instance, if channel S is not active...

Identify transmitters that are used as a Control Variable in the field
The pharmaceuticals I dealt with had very stringent calibration schedules The calibration schedules were worked out in production/calibration joint meetings. The technician was issued work orders specifying which devices to calibrate on which date. The dates had to be adhered to because the...

Scribd.com has a manual entitled "Instruction Manual XPU-2 Option RS-232C/RS-485", dated December 2006 that might have the Modbus slave register data, presuming the protocol in question is Modbus. Be aware that you have to "play games" to view or download from Scribd.com, it is not free access.

Vibration Monitoring
FYI, about 6-7 years ago a number of vendors came out with wireless vibration sensors to climb on the wireless instrumentation band wagon. The output of the device is a scaled number. These companies are not vibration monitoring companies; they're companies that make and sell a sensor. They...

Janitza digital input readout
I think your interpretation is correct. Modbus register 9976 displays the status of the "digital input", not a count of discrete pulses. If you want the total number state changes or pulses on the digital input, you need a counter that will count those changes, not the real time status. I...

Foundation Fieldbus (FF) type positioner Stroke with mA Source?
Emerson published an app note about 10 years ago for converting 4-20mA to Foundation Fieldbus (FF) with an FF RTD 644 transmitter. It's still on-line here: link So yes, you can convert 4-20mA to scaled, proportional FF values. But then you have to get those values to the positioner and get...

How control valves used with sensors for auto on/off
The valve selection is like any valve: depends on application for the material of construction, line pressure, Cv, flow rate needed, If the sensor is a switch (or has internal functions that can switch a discrete output) that can drive the actuator directly, then a 2 position actuator will...

Impulse line
Historically it is imperial measurement based: 1 inch per foot (12 inches). I suspect that ratio was chosen because it was an easy means for the installation contractors to remember. I seriously doubt any 'study' was ever done, it was just a convenient ratio in the in-use measurement...

All the instrumentation mentioned has operating temperature limits, stated in their respective spec sheets, with the free-chlorine analyzer probably having the lowest operating temperature high limit. In replacement mode, you are better suited than anyone to evaluate what the performance of the...

CONDUCTIVITY ANALYZER ISSUE !!
Conductivity is temperature dependent. Grab samples transported to a lab can cool and have a different conductivity. The process probe reads higher then the 'actual reading'. How do you know that the "actual reading" is 200 uS? Is it not likely that the process probe is telling you what...
