calibration of weighing system
Transport the scale to the 'weigh lab' instead of transporting the cal weights to the scales.

HART communicator caused step change in DCS reading
Another explicit means of faulting the loop current - connecting TREX mA port in the loop. Page 8 of the TREX Quick Start Guide. https://www.emerson.com/documents/automation/quick-start-guide-ams-trex-device-communicator-en-us-171742.pdf

HART communicator caused step change in DCS reading
I doubt I’ll ever get answers to my questions so I’ll go with some scenarios that might have happened. 1. Assuming the DCS AI uses the 4-20mA analog signal for its input value, then incorrect connection of the TREX might have inserted resistance into the loop circuit that altered the AI’s...

GE Rx3i (Proficy ME 9.5): Protocol for reading floating points from power monitor using Modbus TCP
32 bit floating point (FP) values require the Modbus client to request 2, 16 bit registers for each FP value it needs. Modbus Function Code 03 that reads Holding registers in the (4)xxxxx memory area uses the number of registers as part of its syntax, as shown in the example from the Modbus...

HART communicator caused step change in DCS reading
1. What is a Rosemount 1051? I’ve heard of 1150’s, 1151’s, run across 2051 and 3051x but not a 1051. 2. How many HART master devices were connected at the same time? DCS analog input reading the pressure via HART? DCS AMS getting HART diagnostics passed through the DCS AI? TREX? Laptop with...

HELP: install Level transmitter on an AIR tank
1. Locating the elevation of the pressure transmitter The transmitter can not 'see' or sense any liquid beneath the elevation of its ports. Any liquid below the elevation of the transmitters' ports, labeled X in your diagram, cannot be detected, seen or sensed by the pressure transmitter...

HELP: install Level transmitter on an AIR tank
Just to confirm, connections are tubes or pipes. The DP transmitter did not come with remote seals connected with capillary tubing, correct?

HELP: install Level transmitter on an AIR tank
You're trying to measure the level of condensed water in an air receiver tank? What technology is the level transmitter? What exactly have attached to the middle of the tank? Please provide a sketch of these physical connections.

Mark VIe HMI Honeywell DCS modbus TCP/IP
Alternatives: 1. If you're a programmer, then there's the Arduino line of low-cost processors with a recently introduced Arduino PLC that might have Modbus functionality (don't have to use the I/O). Then there are varieties like Raspberry Pi and whatnot that might have Modbus functionality...

Mark VIe HMI Honeywell DCS modbus TCP/IP
The Modbus organization hosts a directory of its members at https://modbus.org/companies.php You can search the list for linux. The members list is maybe 1/1,000th of the commercial Modbus implementations out there, so do not consider it a comprehensive list, by any means. Google is your...

Flow Balancing Valves - control strategy
Why not bias the Differential flow value (individual vessel flow minus (average) flow) because that's the PID controller's setpoint, right? Use the same bias on all controllers simultaneously.

Mark VIe HMI Honeywell DCS modbus TCP/IP
Out of curiosity, what's the problem you're trying to solve running Modbus on a Linus box? I have to ask because there are 100's of thousands of HMI or SCADA apps running on Windows boxes that execute Modbus functions and equally as many, if not more that do so using a Modbus driver in OPC...

DP Transmitter to be a PT
Agree on the sintered breather filter. It can keep insects like mud daubers from making the DP's low port a home and blocking the port with mud.

Fisher NPS 1 GX with DVC6200F Foundation Fieldbus Test
Warning, I can't answer your question, other than the obvious that for a test the actuator needs air and the FF positioner needs FF power; I just want to rant about Foundation Fieldbus. A couple years ago, just before Covid, I spent 40 days in the wilderness learning how to do some very basic...

Control valve maintenance strategy
The move towards partial stroke testing is to exercise a test that assures operation and avoids the wait-until-shutdown for testing and by that point, emergency repair. There's a relatively reasonable overview of the partial stroke testing (PST/PSVT) and its 3 implementation methods here...

Control valve maintenance strategy
The whole HART diagnostics thing is supposed to be about using the data in HART diagnostic counters that run continuously in the valve positioner and then analyzing that data to tell you which valves appear to need work. The concept is predicated on having (relatively expensive, licensed) Asset...

DP Transmitter to be a PT
Connect the high side port to the point to be measured. Do not plug the low side port; leave it open to the atmosphere. The reported measurement then references atmospheric pressure and is a gauge pressure measurement.

Making sense of a Modbus register
No, the Modbus protocol does not support exchange of address register numbers. Does the value 1316.6 V make sense for the single phase voltage or 125.76 A for the single phase current?
