gas ultrasonic flow meter problem
- flowmeter's RS-485 port supports Profibus DP, not Modbus RTU - Modbus RTU is optional and the option was not purchased, so the flow meter does not actually have Modbus RTU functionality. - Modbus RTU functionality is resident on the flowmeter, but has not been enabled - Modbus port...

UEIDAQ DNC-378 thermocouple simulator
How long, for what period of time, did you let the simulator/calibrator and the device under test stabilize under powered conditions in the area where the calibrator is used? I've seen most stuff take a minimum of 10 minutes and usually closer to 20 minutes to stabilize. The electronics must...

Timestamp differences within Siemens PCS 7 - analog trends vs messages lists
No, I don't know. I've no exposure to PCS7, other than noting that PCS7 has its own "conference" on Siemens user forum hosted by the Siemens web site. Whereas most DCS's do not publically publish any documentation, there appears to be some documentation available for PCS7. My impression for...

Timestamp differences within Siemens PCS 7 - analog trends vs messages lists
What's the sampling/logging rate for trend data? It makes a difference. Suppose it is a 10 second sampling/logging rate, not an unusual logging rate for analog data, in fact faster than many DCS historians. The sampling/logging of a data point could occur just a couple mS before the breaker...

HART Communicator does not connect with transmitter
Interesting that nothing in the TREX spec sheet mentions lack of ability of the TREX to power the loop; in fact, there are multiple references to the advantages of the TREX being able to power the loop to configure a HART device before the electrical infrastructure is in place in greenfield...

HART Communicator does not connect with transmitter
Are you connected to the B connection (on the extreme right, as shown below) on the TREX for an externally powered loop? 3.6 Device connection wizard If the Trex unit cannot automatically detect or connect to the device, tap HART or Fieldbus on the Connect - Select screen to start the device...

HART Communicator does not connect with transmitter
Have you checked the model number and made sure that the transmitter is not Foundation Fieldbus, or Profibus, or Modbus output?

hunting of generator
Without knowing anything about turbine generator controls, it appears from Faisal's reply that the governor has an input signal that it uses for its operation. When the governor input was an fluctuating/oscillating flow signal, the overall result was "Hunting". When the oscillating flow signal...

HART Communicator does not connect with transmitter
Trex has either 250 or 500 Ohm resistors internally that it can use in its HART sense circuit. Somewhere in the menu you get to pick. At $12K+, I don't have aTREX laying around to experiment with. Read the manual to find out how you navigate the menu to get enough loop resistance to get a...

Need some help with ladder diagrams
Most web fora participants will ask you to show your work (with comments), and if there's errors, ask you to explain why you did that way, before providing correction. It's rare to find someone who will do your homework for you. There's nothing preventing that from happening, but I'd be...

communication issue
Why was the scanner replaced while it was still working? If not, how do you know that communications link (wiring, PLC comm port) is functional? The problem could some difference between the new scanner and the old scanner. Is the new scanner at Modbus node address 1? Did the wiring...

communication issue
Modbus is NEVER plug 'n play. Never ever. Modbus is always a project. A Modbus slave is pretty passive. The slave just executes the tasks that the Master tells it to execute and replies with a confirming message. So if you changed PLCs and can not talk to the same temp scanner as before...

Need to control the position of an Actutor
You could start with an actuator designed to be controlled by a potentiometer. Honeywell's Series 90 Modutrol partial turn rotary motor/acutators are controlled by a 135 Ohm pot. Of course, the challenge will be whether the actuator - fits and mounts - is fast or slow enough - has enough torque

How to convert mmWC to Ton/hr
I can't. You can't. Too little data. 0-2500mmWC is the pressure drop across a primary flow element, it's not a flow rate. You need a basic flow rate to convert to another flow rate. 0-2500mmWC represents some calculated flow rate, depending on the design inlet pressure, design...

Exhuast thermocuple reading Flactuation after startup
> when testing like this you should remember: Exhaust T/Cs are biased from their “raw” (CJ compensated) value before being used in the temp control and protection algorithms, so the values you see on the display don’t match the incoming, CJ compensated values (post #6) Sounds like a major...

Exhuast thermocuple reading Flactuation after startup
1. When a thermocouple reads low, it can be due to cold junction compensation not being enabled or being measured for that circuit/input/T/C. If the cold junction measurement is made locally in a remote terminal junction box, where copper wire is then used for the final connection to the...
