GE 9030 Upgrade to RX3i PLC with Modbus coms to GE Mark VIe
I'm not familiar with this equipment, but could this be caused by the common "off by 1" addressing issue in Modbus? Perhaps the 9030 used 0-based register addressing and the RX3i uses 1-based, or vice-versa. Have you tried adding 1 to, or subtracting 1 from, the RX3i's register addresses?

Modbus Poll to ABB REX640 relay
For that, you will need to read and understand all of section 3.4 Modbus application data in the REX640 Modbus manual that I linked previously: https://library.e.abb.com/public/c0...1OOuHaPPeKV/+AIrDsvHg3gkSOcp4pZwhyysADG38yoyH This device seems to be quite complicated in that all data is...

MODBUS ASCII Protocol Standard / Definition or .NET library?
Take a look at the NModbus C# library here: https://github.com/NModbus/NModbus As a general note, though, you are mixing your Modbus terms. Modbus ASCII is a serial-only protocol defined in the Modbus specifications. The other defined serial protocol in the specifications is Modbus RTU, which...

Modbus Poll to ABB REX640 relay
I'm not sure what the -1 value means. If I were to guess, it may just be the value that all counters are initialized to, indicating counting has not begun. From your screenshots it seems that you have configured Modbus Slave Port 1 and are using Ethernet TCP 1. Does this device have multiple...

Modbus Poll to ABB REX640 relay
The STATUS would be expected to be false because we already know you are unable to establish a connection. The end goal is to establish a connection, and in turn, the STATUS will show true. But we need to figure out why the connection is not succeeding. What do the "CnReject no sockets" and...

Modbus Poll to ABB REX640 relay
If you still can't connect to the REX640, take a look at its Modbus/TCP diagnostics counters for additional insight. Details on these counters can be found in section 3.2.2.1 Modbus TCP/IP diagnostic counters in the REX640 Modbus manual...

Modbus Poll to ABB REX640 relay
Are you making a direct connection between your computer and the REX640 (i.e. just an Ethernet cable connecting the two) or are you using an Ethernet switch (potentially with other devices on the network)? If it's the latter, does the ping still work if you disconnect the REX640 from the...

Remote IO using rs485 (or twisted shielded pair) with 4-20ma on both ends
What about using Ethernet instead of RS-485, using two of these, for example? https://www.fctele.com/serial-industries-fieldbus/8-channel-4-20ma-to-ethernet-converter/

Remote IO using rs485 (or twisted shielded pair) with 4-20ma on both ends
What sort of distances are we talking about here? Would the 4-20mA signal itself simply be able to cover the distance? If not, what about using a signal repeater or signal conditioner? Is there some other reason why you would need to use RS-485?

Basic RS232 display not displaying even sent replicated data.
I'd caution against assuming that because you don't see a trace on a PCB that there is no connection. PCB's can have multiple internal layers that may have trace routing that you would be unable to see through the outside layer. Are you sure the ASCII messages being sent by the device that came...

Basic RS232 display not displaying even sent replicated data.
Many RS-232 devices rely on control/handshake signals, in addition to the TX and RX pins (2, 3). Take a look at the RS-232 in Minimal Handshake Applications section here: https://www.analog.com/en/resources/technical-articles/fundamentals-of-rs232-serial-communications.html Try connecting the...

Adding some additional comments to the previous suggestions. Did you power cycle the meter after making changes to the settings? Many devices need to be power cycled for communication setting changes to take effect. Try isolating the problem meter and test communications by disconnecting it...

Energy Metering Communicating Gibberish & Incorrect Info over Modbus RTU
No luck here either, but I did find documentation for a possibly related meter: https://www.rayleigh.com/media/uploads/OP_RI-F400-G_OP585-V01.pdf In that document, they do use 5-digit reference address with 0-based addressing (as I mentioned, something I've never seen before). The telling sign...

Also, please provide the manufacturer and model number of your energy meter. Perhaps the documentation you have is out of date and there is newer Modbus documentation more applicable to the firmware actually running on the meter.

Energy Metering Communicating Gibberish & Incorrect Info over Modbus RTU
In my brief testing with Open ModScan, I found it to have some bugs and therefore I don't fully trust it. In my opinion, it's better to use the genuine article, ModScan from Win-Tech, from a trusted company with decades of proven software, instead of a clone freely provided by one person. I...

Energy Metering Communicating Gibberish & Incorrect Info over Modbus RTU
I'm not so sure the documentation actually uses 3xxxx reference notation. It shows the Start Address as 30000 for Voltage L1 L-N. The lowest register for 3xxxx notation is 30001. I've never seen a manufacturer attempt to use both reference notation and 0-based addressing (though there is a first...
