Gents,
We have a GE gas turbine generator with following specs:
Model: 217210 - 20MVA, 6.6kV, 50Hz, 4 pole, 1500rpm, 0.85 PF, 1750A. Field Amps at rated load is 800A.
We want to tweak the settings of the excitor limiters as follows:

Dear all,
I hope you are in the best of health and spirits.
I need help in understanding root-cause of a recent tripping on one of the generator units at my workplace. The generator is coupled with Gas Turbine Frame-5001PA.
Generator details are:
Type DG185ZL
Rated Power - 26 MVA
Power...
Dear all,
I recently observed that a full load i.e. 13MWs, on our gas turbines there is a little sparking observed at the carbon brushes and collector ring contact points. The interesting thing is that the sparking is more at negative brushes than the positive.
Any idea why this is the case...
I would like to know what you guys think on following scenario:
A Network has 4 Gast Turbines which are synced and all are in Droop mode. One of Gas Turbine among them, has a GCV clamped at 8MW output.
On a particular day, what happens is that even with GCV clamped, the output reduced by 1MW...
Hey guys,
I was having a discussion on electrical motors area classification with an ATEX certified professional(IECEx CP) and I was quoting him NFPA 70 Article 501 for a case.
His comments were that NFPA does not offer much information or training on this subject.

Dear all,
I want to investigate a curious finding that happened at our site few days back.
We have a PLC Rack which is supplied through a standard 2 Pole, 2A, Schneider Electric IC60N MCB. The breaker tripped and the PLC shutdown which impacted a critical process.
When we were checking why...
Hey folks,
Hope you are all doing well!
We have a old BRUSH Electric Motor-Generator Set at our site. Recently during servicing, we noticed that the insulation on the Rotor poles was removed/eroding at places(See attached picture). Bare copper can be seen being exposed.
This was concerning...
Hope all of you fine folks are doing well!
I was recently reading a paper which states that we can use NON-SPARKING motors in Class 1 Div 2 areas instead of Explosion proof motors.
''As per IEEE standards(IEEE-1349 Std), 3 phase induction motors(non-classified) that do not have capacitors...
Hey everyone, hope all of you are doing great!
I was reading that the gas turbine efficiency is directly impacted by incoming fuel temperature. Seems logical. But I want to know what is the extent of that impact?
How much change in efficiency is expected for lets say a 10 degree C rise in fuel...
Hey guys,
Hope you all are doing great!
A tech observed a strange phenomenon yesterday. He said that he had two 100KW,415V,50Hz gas generators with identical ratings, parameters and components. Both managed by Deepsea 8610 controllers. When he tried to sync them both, they synced perfectly on...
Dear all,
Sharing this for benefit of all. We had a recent issue at site and it was rectified.
What Happened?
We have the following Rotork IQ70 at our Ammonia plant.
The valve was taken off service for overhaul in outage. The valve stem was removed. During this activity the main AC supply...
Dear all,
I need help!

Dear all,
We have the following motor at our site:
HP-60, V-400, RPM-2960, A-79.4, Delta, PF-0.88, Insul. Class F. It is a frame 225M Siemens Motor, manufactured in 1998.
The motor was recently checked by MTS and they say that:

Dear all,
Need your insight on a matter related to Non-Driven End and Driven End insulation of bearings. In most cases, various motor manufacturers recommend that NDE side should be insulated whereas DE side should not.
Logically, I see that whether DE or NDE insulation is there on the...
