Wiring Scheme for Position Feedback for a Valve
Wiring details are device-specific. You need to check the documentation for wiring details for your positioner and the analog input it will connect to. Most positioner position feedback modules are 2 wire loop powered, requiring power from an external DC power supply. Position feedback is...

MODBUS Communication Between Controller and MicroPLC
As you've discovered, the task before you is a project. I assume you have a Modbus field device, a Modbus enabled 1400 PLC, and Modbus enabled SCADA. The field device is almost certainly a Modbus RTU slave. Therefore, the 1400 has to be a Modbus RTU master on an RS-232 channel. RS-232 comm...

>Does it matter if the devices are connected in series? Answer: The physical position along the daisy chain bus has no relationship to a slave's assigned node ID address. Any device along a multidrop 485 bus can have any unique slave node ID address. >connection of 2..33.3.55..6...

> I must say that i am confused.. That's to be expected in a world of opinion. My bar stool opinions: 3. CAT6 will work. Keep the stripped ends as short as possible. Untwist the pairs as little as possible. I'm not sure what you mean by "keep the insulation or not". 4. The...

Unstable HART Signal via AI Splitter
The manual at this link: https://portal.endress.com/wa001/dla/5000275/1921/000/00/TI101DEN_1009.pdf#page14 shows that the HART signal is always on terminals 26 & 27 (pages 12 & 13). There are other 4-20mA channels, but those are not HART enabled. The spec portion mentions HART as an...

Unstable HART Signal via AI Splitter
HART is normally pretty robust when it has a connection and sufficient resistance to develop a signal for the modem chip. Is the cabling shielded twisted pair? Sounds like you need to go to the authority on this one to figure out why you don't have stable HART on the transmitter side. The...

Smart Home Modbus Connection Design
I've a couple clients (light industrial) use CAT 5 (twisted pair) cable for RS-485 and it has worked just fine. It's not shielded but is twisted pair. I'm sure CAT 6 would have functioned OK in the apps I did, especially at 19.2K baud. The thing I don't like about CATx cable is the 24G...

Unstable HART Signal via AI Splitter
The spec sheet http://files.pepperl-fuchs.com/selector_files/navi/productInfo/edb/228751_eng.pdf says the input resistance on the input side might be low for HART, depending on which input you are wired to. Input resistance: terminals 2-, 3: ≤76Ω terminals 1+, 3...

I don't know. I'd never heard of NEMO before this thread came up. But figuring out which, if any, protocol the device talks is Step 1.

Energy Meters and Data Register Reading Issues
There are typically hundreds of values in these energy meters. The first thing I'd investigate is whether one is reading the correct register. This Control.com thread from a couple years back alludes to a problem reading floating point values https://control.com/thread/1399368182...

Multiplexer to Connect to Gateway using RS485 Modbus
Way too little information to go on. 1. Gateway is a very generic term. What exactly is the existing gateway? What is this gateway capable of? Why can't it do what you're asking? 2. What protocol do the 'two pc' (sic) talk? Do these PC's have any Modbus functionality already? 3...

1. Is Modbus resident in the unit? According to the spec sheet here, http://www.imeitaly.com/docs/NT528.pdf the model MF1CT2 has Modbus RTU over RS232 and the model MF1CT4 has Modbus RTU over RS-485 Question Which model do you have? 2. What hardware is needed? There appears to...

2080-RTD2 for LG Ni 1000 Sensor
Every type of RTD has its own alpha characteristic - change in resistance with temperature change. If the RTD type is not listed for a given transmitter, then you need to either use another sensor type or find a transmitter that can correctly interpret the resistance change.

2080-RTD2 for LG Ni 1000 Sensor
The Ω symbols are an issue with different interpretations of character formats. The characters undoubtedly are meant to represent the Ohm character and probably do in the original document. But there are multiple character sets, extended ASCII, Unicode, others that interpret non-usual...

mA Input HART 9 Digit Display
I'd be interested in seeing someone identify such a beast. I don't know of one. Two weeks ago, I wrote on another forum that I didn't think there was a dual output thermocouple temperature transmitter, yet within a day or two, someone in Australia located one. It's a big world out there, maybe...

Siemens Fieldbus Positioner
About a year ago when I inquired about updating firmware for a HART PS2, I was told that buying a processor board was the only option. There was no publicly available firmware update software or firmware update file. Given that you are referencing FF, a Siemens rep is most likely the best...

RTD Output
A bad connection in the resistance measuring circuit of an RTD circuit will increase the total resistance, so the RTD circuit would have more resistance in it that it should have resulting in a false higher temperature indicated reading at the receiver. However, an increase in resistance in...

Modbus RS232 Communication
The Tx line for the RS-232 is wired through the NC momentary push button switch. When you push the button, the switch opens and the Tx line opens, killing comm between the HMI and PLC. Seriously, so what is the DI that the push button is connected to programmed to do, if not affect the...

PLC IOs Galvanic Isolation
Slightly off-topic, I put an RS-485 repeater/isolator right at the CPU and at least one more half way down a long-run 485 multidrop network, just in case there's a electrical fault or lightning strike then the CPU and half the network survives. This has paid off at least three times that I'm...
