Generator Breaker Cannot Open
CSA... In all years we have had discussions on this forum I have never, repeat never, impugned, scorned, or ridiculed your knowledge of the 'GT' part of GTGs. My discussions, based on "light-years" (to me) of education and experience, were only intended to enlighten those interested in...

Generator Breaker Cannot Open
Hi CSA... First, I specifically addressed LoE, not LoI (Loss-of-Input). Secondly your "synch-gen'r operating w/o excitation... w/o prime mover input... while still connected to the grid..." characterizes an induction-motor, not an induction-generator. Regards, Phil

Generator Breaker Cannot Open
CSA... you keep alluding to the LOE event causing the Alternator to operate as an induction-motor. That is not the case. It becomes an induction-generator, and it can.remain as such for several minutes! Regards, Phil

Calculation of Power for 3 Phase Supply
Gulabg... It can be readily calculated using only Voltage and Current magnitudes. All that is necessary is simple drawing of your setup, showing source arrangement, and load configuration. If you want to, send it to

Sizing Three Phase Induction Motor
Krishnan... all you need are: a) Brake-Hp, of the driven-machine. b) its speed. c) duty-cycle => continuous, intermittent, other. d) its torque during startup must exceed that of the driven-machine. Regards, Phil Corso

Calculation of Power for 3 Phase Supply
Gulabg... the specifics you provided, i.e., 3-ph delta, 120V, 240V, 90deg, and 180deg, are more associated with a 3-ph, 4wire, delta-connected, center-tapped (hi-leg) secondary distribution system. Can you provide a hand-drawn sketch of your system? Regards, Phil Corso

Generator Phase Distance Protection
Greatmark... Distance-protection is not usually applied to Generator-protection. Are you asking, "Can a microprocessor-based relay with Distance-relaying capability be used for Generator protection?" Regards, Phil Corso

PF in Generator Breaker Selection
WS32119... typically, CB selection is based on 1.25 x kVA rating! Its kVA rating, 40kW at 0.8 pf, is kW/pf equals to 50kVA! Thus, the generator's maximum current rating is 139A. How did you arrive at 158A? Regards, Phil Corso Barbican... you can only increase kW above rated if Genset...

Static Starter LS2100e
Niazbibiyana... it is analogous to sizing an auto-transformer for motor starting. Simply put, it is sized to accommodate RMS value of kVA x time (or Amps if V is constant) during the starting period! Are you are interested the calculation detail? Regards, Phil Corso
