Initial Torque Required for Gas Turbine
CSA... "At this point, the person observing the starting motor current should also be asked to report the current value..." A motor's starting or "breakaway" torque is determined by the motor's parameters! Hence starting-current does not vary for most of the runup duration!

Power Factor on LV/HV Sides of a Transformer
CB... yes, the primary-side PF will change, but not because of phase-shift. Instead, the change is influenced by the Xfmr's Cu and Fe losses! These losses, when added to the load's parameters, will 'slightly' change the primary PF! Using your example of a 1 MVA, 0.8 PF load, connected to...

High School Math - How is this used in the real world?
Thanks you FluidFlow, I finally reached 80! Clearly it feels like two 40's. I'm still active enough to help others, so if anyone wants to avail themselves of 60+ years of Electrical Power experience, contact me at:

Sorry, CSA... The poster provided enough information for the study, except for alternator efficiency! If you believe my student’s guesstimate of efficiency is in error, then please be good enough to provide a value you may have learned during your career. Phil

Sorry, CSA... it's all your getting. I must admit, however, that we are somewhat equal... I know as much about gas-turbines as you know about electricity. How long have you been involved with your avocation? Regarding electricity, my student is willing to tutor you. Best to you, Phil

CSA... considering your admitted disdain for academia, I thought you might accept a university student’s answer. So I assigned the task to my students. Following is the winner’s solution: Start of Student Study 1) This study will show that changing an alternator’s load-PF (hence its...

Cable tray separation
Jasoin... The ANSI/IEEE-Std supports your contention regarding Vertical Segregation of Data "Transmission" cables and power cables. The conflict arises because the API-std fails to prescribe what is represented by "Hi-Voltage!" construction. Regards, Phil

Different modes of AVR operation
CSA... I believe you will agree that if load MW is constant so is fuel-rate. Paraphrasing the poster's query, "while maintaining a 40MW load, will a change in the load's MVAr component affect fuel-rate?" I now realize my mistake. Of course it will "influence" fuel-rate, but, to what...
