Card Faults in Triconex PLC
Have you sent a diag file to a Triconex service center for analysis? Or to Triconex in Houston, Tx. You should be able to sign up for the Triconex Support web page. They have all the manuals online as pdf files for download. You can also sign up to get all their notices and bulletins...

Card Faults in Triconex PLC
>How do I correct this problem? I have already replaced 10 >cards on this particular channel. Have you returned any of the cards to Triconex for repair? When they repair cards, they do a full diagnostic and upgrade them to the latest compatible hardware and firmware.

Card Faults in Triconex PLC
The first thing I do if the problem is a soft fault is reset the error on the card to see if it repeats. If it does, but I cannot understand or fix the error, you need to run the Triconex Diagnostic Monitor or Advanced Diagnostic Monitor software while connected to that system. It will...

Why do you pay for PLC programming software?
It depends on what world and industry you are working in. If the control system has to meet a SIL level because the process or equipment is potentially dangerous; you must use hardware and software certified for that Safety Integrity Level. This requirement applies to chemical processes...

Difference Power Cables and Signal Cables
>All I was trying to know was the subtle differences that >might forbid the use of one cable in the "other" application. Signal cables will be smaller gauge and consist of multiple individually shielded twisted pairs. Control cables will be non shielded multi conductor cables for on-off...

Redundancy at Communication Level
For true redundancy of the enet links, cards and system; you would have 2 NOE cards in primary chassis and 2 in HSBY chassis.

Honeywell Experion PKS R430.3, Cascade Loop Initialization
How are you cycling the AO output to zero? All the function blocks in the cascade loop's chain must be regulatory blocks to ensure that initialization and tracking work and are not broken.

Data Capture from Mitsubishi PLC Controller
The software we have used is Tips Inc. Logmate Capture; http://tipsweb.com/products-logmate/logmate-modules/logmate-capture/ They may offer a demo version. I would google like crazy for free and Linux software. Searching for "serial port data logger" finds many possibilities such as...

Use of Ex'i' Certified Transmitter Without Isolating IS Barriers
Is this a standard loop powered transmitter? The answer is of course YES. You will find that all modern transmitters are rated general purpose Nema 4, IS and explosion proof. Therefore you can use them in general purpose areas without barriers or in classified areas as IS with barriers or...

Question about PLC Input Module
You need to google the various major PLC manufacturers; Rockwell, Modicon, Siemens, etc; and review their online documentation. They will have all the info available; CPU scan time, I/O capacity, I/O scan time, I/O voltage ranges, etc. You will probably find that the CPU and I/O scan times...

Calculation of Power for 3 Phase Supply
Since they are resistive loads: total power will be 2x120x13 + 240x13=6240W You need to know the ON time for the heaters to calculate the kWhr.

Data Capture from Mitsubishi PLC Controller
I have used simple terminal programs on a PC to record reports from DCS systems and save them to text files. There may be an issue with your serial port setup. i.e. # of bits, even or odd parity. There is software like Logmate that is designed to capture reports from comm or network connections...

Safety PLCs
What safety PLC's do you have at work? The manufacturer will have hardware and implementation documentation as well as training courses. You also might want to survey the different manufacturers to see what type of systems they have. For example, Triconex has the Tricon and Trident TMR...

Using SIL-2 Devices in SIL-3 Loops
If your SIL calculation gives you SIL 3 with those 2 transmitters based on their failure rate; then it is OK. More commonly to provide more redundancy and reliability 3 transmitters are used in a 2oo3 configuration with deviation and stuck transmitter alarms. When we upgraded our boiler...

DI AO and AI on Same Cable
One more point; many wiring specifications require that control wiring wither 12VDC. 120VAC or 125VDC is 14 AWG. This ensures that voltage drop is not a problem.

DI AO and AI on Same Cable
Are the pairs individually shielded for the AI and AO signals? That are the wattage of the DO loads? If they are more than low wattage IS solenoids; I would worry about voltage drop and possibly burning up the cable. That is the conductor gauge of the cable? You will have to fuse the DO...
