Rotational Direction of a Turbine Generator
Saul, This is a pretty common question from people at power plants, especially new employees. You really need to recognize that the turbine is a prime mover for the generator. The generator is what gets synchronized to the grid with other generators and their prime movers, so it's the...

Turbine Compartment Ventilation
khoriwal000, Sorry; I'm not familiar with "s/b", and I did use my preferred World Wide Web search engine to look it up. Standby; Should Be; Stolen Base; Seen By; etc.; nothing related to technical terms that I could find. I even tried Latin (since I've been remiss for not considering that...

How To Get Certified by GE?
Hello, Your CV/resume should clearly state the skills and abilities you have developed and put to use so as to demonstrate your current knowledge level and expertise. If you're just saying you have EX2100e experience, well, anyone can say that in a CV/resume. Can you commission an EX2100e...

Torque Converter and Turning Gear System in Gas Turbine
Tiru, I would like to know how my watch works. Can you help me? And, you can't see my watch (this is, after all, the World Wide Web, and we're not standing together and talking). I didn't tell you if the watch was analog or digital. If it was wind-up, or battery-powered. If it has hands or...

Reduced Gas Turbine Base Load Output
So, you only want to pursue the cause you believe to be the reason for the loss of output? You did not provide all of the information requested--the two most important signals were not included in your response: TTRXP and TTRXS. Someone who is very skilled with a borescope can check tip...

Cap.prn File Create
I presume you are working on an (which runs IDOS, Interface Disk Operating System). I believe the process of creating a CSP.PRN file is covered in the Mark V Maintenance Manual, GEH-5980. There is an executable file in the G:\EXEC directory which will create CSP.PRN when run. There should...

96BD-1 Process Line Clogged
calgirl17, Thank you very very much for the feedback! I was certain the penetrations were in the bellmouth casting, but could not have realized they would have been painted over. Again--thanks for the information.

Back to Isochronous and Droop
KC, You're welcome. Generally, hydro generators are not very fast to respond to load changes, even in frequency control mode. I don't know about the configuration of the inlets to the turbines, but when they need to slow down because of load decrease the water flow has to stop or slow...

Reduced Gas Turbine Base Load Output
kwabenaasare, What Process- and Diagnostic Alarms are active when the unit is running at Base Load? (List ALL alarms--even if they seem irrelevant to you or you believe you know whey they are active!) Do the operators click on BASE LOAD to load the unit to Base Load, or do they put...

High CO in Turbine Exhaust
So, this problem has developed since the last maintenance outage? If so, that would seem to point something that was done during the maintenance, don't you agree? How does the steam injection flow-rate after the outage compare to the flow-rate before the outage for the same fuel flow-rate...

Limit Switches on Compressor Bleed Valve
You didn't say what Frame unit you are referring to, nor who the packager of the unit was. IN GENERAL, the axial compressor bleed valve limit switches are installed as normally open switches--which are actuated by a lever on the bleed valve shaft to close the switch when the bleed valve is...

Jagdish, Droop Speed Control, used for operating prime movers and generators synchronized to a grid with many other prime movers and generators, is how units are typically controlled. From the information you provided, I suspect the Power Management System is over-riding the governors of...

Configuring Remote HMI Viewer in GE MARK VIe
What HMI application do you intend to use? What are its capabilities--does it have OPC, and which OPC "modes" does it use? What do you want the remote HMI Viewer to be capable of doing? Simple monitoring of unit operation? Do you want to be able to start/stop (send commands) to the Mark VIe...

High CO in Turbine Exhaust
How does the NOx now (with the high CO) compare to the NOx before the high CO? What fuel is being burned when the CO is higher than expected? Is the unit capable of operating on more than one fuel, and if so, how often is it operates on each fuel? Does the unit use water- or steam...
