9FA Gas Turbine Unloading Rate
Stephen Roche, Based on the signal names (the 'L' suffix at then end of the signal names you quoted) I might suggest that your turbine's logic was modified. I'm going to presume the 'L' suffix stands for 'Lower', which would be the unloading rate. Without being able to see the...

2+1 CC both GTs tripped and Steam Turbine was still producing 30MW
vpsopm, Your question can only be answered by the people who are responsible for the operation of the plant at your site who should be experienced and capable of analyzing and understanding the events and how they believe the plant should be operated. If the plant doesn't have this kind of...

Initial Torque Required for Gas Turbine
Izhar, GE-design Frame 9E heavy duty gas turbines previously used hydrogen-cooled generators which were physically much smaller for the same rating. The rotors of hydrogen-cooled generators versus those of air-cooled generators for the same rating are much lighter and smaller, so the bearings...

Getting a better understanding of GT control PART 3
Neo, Do you want to answer the question about servos, or do you wish to continue with the Protective Status trips? Maybe it would be best to open another thread for the servo question(s)?

2+1 CC both GTs tripped and Steam Turbine was still producing 30MW
vpsopm, This could be one of "those" conditions that was never envisioned by the plant designers that happens only when the planets are aligned in just the right way. (And, usually, if it happens once it seems to happen again. And again.) It's really difficult to say what should have...

9FA Gas Turbine Unloading Rate
SteveRoche, Unfortunately, GE uses the same Control Constant for unloading as for loading when in "Auto" mode--in almost every case. So, if you change the existing "Auto" loading/unloading rate to make the unloading rate faster for the shutdown, it's also going to be faster when loading...

Initial Torque Required for Gas Turbine
Izhar, Thanks for the correction. And the feedback. 111 A on a 6.3 KV motor seems high, but with an air-cooled generator GE Belfort probably felt the extra HP/torque was warranted during breakaway and starting. It's very ..., interesting that the unit was starting fine before the...

High School Math - How is this used in the real world?
Hi, This is such a great question!!! I think all of us when we were learning the basics in primary and secondary schools had this very same thought--how is this stuff actually used in the "real world?" The fact that you, RLovell, actually listen to the students and are trying to find examples...

Initial Torque Required for Gas Turbine
Dear Izhar, It could also be that 20TU-1 (the torque converter "pressurizing" solenoid) is intermittently failing, though that wouldn't explain the tripping. The tripping could be that somehow the torque adjustor limit switch for max torque is out of adjustment (set too high) and it's...

Getting a better understanding of GT control PART 3
Neo, I thought we'd covered the L14HSX before. So I'm kind of surprised about how it was misread. I'm getting more confused by the thread; this is getting quite disorganized--not at all what I'd envisioned when we started this journey of discovery. Anyone coming along later will surely...

Initial Torque Required for Gas Turbine
Dear Izhar, I have re-read the original post and am curious about the starting means trip alarm being experienced. As noted previously, the current drawn by the starting motor is much higher than nameplate rating (and that is normal and expected--though anything above approximately 170% would...

Generator Load Sharing Issue
RigMan, A generator is a device for converting torque into amperes. Torque is produced by the prime mover--the engine is this case. More fuel equals more torque. The generator just converts torque into amperes, so there must be something amiss with the engine governor or the fuel pressure...

Gas Turbine Cannot Reach Minimum Operating Speed for Complete Sequence
> The MKV is capable of Manual FSR. CuriousOne, Manual FSR can be used to decrease FSR, but not to increase it. From the information provided, it would seem FSKSU_AR is limiting the fuel for some reason. Either there is a flow restriction in the fuel supply (plugged filter and/or...

Gas Turbine Cannot Reach Minimum Operating Speed for Complete Sequence
saha, The first question to be asked is: What has changed? Why is the unit now experiencing this problem, because it's likely that it didn't have this problem in the past (a Mark V with an <I> is pretty "mature" (a polite way of saying it's getting older)). Has the fuel supply changed? Is...

Isolated Generator and Droop Governor
Manoj Dubey, Hmmm..... Seems someone didn't like my response. Let's assume the turbine was operating by itself with no other generator-sets synchronized with it, the load on the generator is nearly purely resistive (it has very little, if any, resistive component) and that the prime mover's...
