Mark VIe Governor control
N.V.Q, You say you're accustomed to reading SAMA diagrams; everyone, at some point in their career learns some method first, and for the majority of them that's the one they like the best for the rest of their career. (I know that's not true of everyone, but it is for the majority of people...

Getting a better understanding of GT control PART 3
Neo, Thanks for breaking up this thread again. As for not reading signals literally, well, it's so unfortunate that they can't be trusted. It should be clear that if signal names are chosen and written correctly they would be so much easier to read and understand. If only, .... And, if...

Isolated Generator and Droop Governor
Sir, The answer to the question: Would the generator set (prime mover and generator) trip on over frequency would depend on the setting of the over frequency relay. I have been to some sites where the over frequency relay is set extremely high, because of frequency fluctuations in the grid...

GE Frame 7EA Combustion Turbine Starting Motor
Bill Futch, I second everything MIKEVI said; it's not necessary to ramp fuel down before de-pressurizing ("spoiling") the torque converter. Just drop out 20TU-1, and when L94X picks up it will select MINFSR for FSRSD and the unit should coast down to "blowout" (L60RB), presuming the MINFSR...

Mark VIe Governor control
N.V.Q, I would also recommend looking at the manuals provided with the turbine (not the Mark VIe manuals--they won't tell you anything about the turbine and its modes of control--only how the Mark VIe works, and that's not what you seem to be asking). And, as JFB says there are better...

parallel operation of generator
Sagar, Hmmmm....My understanding of the definition of a captive power plant is one that is isolated from any grid and supplies only the power required by "the plant"--the power plant is "captive" to "the plant" and does not supply any power to a larger grid. It seems you are saying that a...

Mark VIe Governor control
N.V.Q, Please work with GE to get this information. We have discussed this, basically, in the past, but it you want more information you will have to get it from GE. Most steam turbines are pretty unique machines; until recent years the molds for the turbine cases were literally broken...

9FA Gas Turbine Water Injection
Mahmoud Alshimy, You are 110% correct. I don't understand your query. If water injection is being used for emissions reduction on the units at your site then it's likely that the emissions on the unit that starts (enables) water injection at 150 MW are higher than they should be at loads...

Generators and leading power factor
Our dear CAM, Somehow I forgot to include that electricity is one method of transferring torque from one location to another. A large prime mover (turbine; reciprocating engine; etc.) can produce a lot of torque to drive one generator, which can be connected to many electric motors (and other...

Isochronous Load Sharing on Dissimilar Generators
Hello, It all really depends on the capabilities of the governors. Some don't operate so well in Isoch-Droop configuration when in parallel on an isolated load/grid. Some operate perfectly fine in such a configuration. Others don't operate well at all. A lot of it has to do with governor...

Efficiency of ac generators
Bert Wank, Great--all of it. But it seems to address Lorentz Force <b>Motors</b>, not the forces attributable to Lorentz' Law in generators, which is what Ugu Kumal was asking about. Interesting, and an interesting development, though. Worth watching. Doesn't change my opinion of my...

Mark 4 Speedtronics HSAA Card jumper position for SRV, GCV Calibration
All, >> Berg jumper settings for R, S, T computers: > REF2 - Set to "1" to calibrate > FB - Set to "S" to calibrate This is necessary to calibrate the SRV LVDTs--not for the GCV LVDTs. The SRV is primarily a pressure control loop with LVDT feedback for stability; for calibration it...

9E Generator Trips on Open Breaker When Under Excitation
bilo7, When a GE-design heavy duty gas turbine equipped with a Speedtronic ("Mark") turbine control system trips <b>A PROCESS ALARM IS ALWAYS ANNUNCIATED TO INDICATE WHAT CAUSED THE TURBINE TO TRIP.</b> So, to answer your question, you need to look at the Process Alarm printout from the...

Our dear CAM, Electric motors are driven by electric generators. Electric motors are devices for converting amperes into torque. Electric generators are devices for converting torque into amperes. If one wants to "load" (increase the burden of) an electric generator one needs to...

9FA Gas Turbine Water Injection
Mahmoud Alshimy, Water injection is usually scheduled (calculated) as a function of fuel flow-rate. It starts when the fuel flow-rate gets above the "enabling" fuel flow-rate, and varies as a function of fuel flow-rate. The amount of water required to meet a certain NOx output (in ppm) can...

MARK VI Out of Service During Start Up of Combined Cycle
