Open Circuit a Current Transformer
When current flows in the primary of a CT with an open-circuited secondary, the first thing that happens is it hums--very loudly. And the second thing that happens is that it basically explodes and any flammable components burn. This doesn't take long, and the time is inversely proportional to...

Steam turbine control operation
sriram, You have asked this question before (12 Aug 2012) and didn't receive a response. I did a quick search of control.com using the 'Search' function at the far right of the menu bar at the top of every control.com webpage for some of the terms you have confusion about and found several...

7EA gas turbine dropping out of base load
Those signals are not available to the CDB (Control Signal Database).... I gotta believe there would be Diagnostic Alarms if these signals exceeded limits. Unless someone masked them.

Frame 7 oil coolers
The L.O. Coolers of GE-design heavy duty gas turbines are not designed to be run in parallel. The <b>Transfer Valve</b> is not designed to be operated in mid-position. In fact, usually when it's left in mid-position for some period of time the o-rings used to seal the coolers from one another...

Gas turbine power generation frame 6 load output
Vinayak, Frankly, I don't really know how to respond. By your own admission, the event was severe. We don't know a lot about how long these severe disturbances occurred, what the frequency of the excursions were, what the peaks of the excursions were. There's a lot we don't know...

Thanks for the feedback! Sounds like you received some good training, or at least made the best of the training you received. I wish you continued success!

7EA gas turbine dropping out of base load
The only times I've ever heard of this happening is when there is a voltage spike on the DC supply (could be from the battery charger; output filter capacitors do go bad), or when the DACA gets dirty input power, or when there was a recommended PROM upgrade that wasn't done (usually per a TIL...

7EA gas turbine dropping out of base load
This is really odd. I forgot to ask the standard question: <b>When did this problem start?</b> There is usually some impedance between the generator and the utility and other generators (Main Step-up Transformers; utility transformers; etc.) so one would think there wouldn't be large...

MKV Panel
This is going to be a very difficult endeavour. There are basically four versions of Mark V (the heavy duty gas turbine variety--I'm not including the Mark V LM in this discussion).: "A", "Hybrid A", "B", "Hybrid B". You would need to "choose" a version to "build" and then obtain the cards used...

Generator Cold Air rating
nic, There are air-cooled generators and hydrogen-cooled generators. Air temperature is air temperature--the air that's beings used to cool the generator, the "incoming" air if you will. Hydrogen-cooled generators have gas-to-water heat exchangers('gas' being hydrogen gas), so the...

Have you noticed what Diagnostic Alarms are annunciated prior to and during these events? Please list them. Are there any error messages/counts being shown on any of the LCC/SLCC displays? If so, please list them--for each of the procesors (<C>, and <R>, <S>, and <T>). The numbers are not...

Gas turbine power generation frame 6 load output
Vinayak asked why his load decreased by so much when the frequency increased. The "inertia" and load of the compressor must also be considered; we don't have any idea about the magnitude or period of the frequency disturbance(s), but reportedly it was severe in any case and not likely to follow...

vijay, The part that would definitely be missing from any procedure you obtained from GE Controls Connect would be the admonition to open all the auxiliary motor starter mains breakers (including any DC pump motors) before powering down all of the control processors at once or powering down...

nic raises an excellent point about the rating. 25kw is approximately 34 horsepower; that would be a <b>lot</b> for a single phase motor. I think that's what MarkAllen was trying to allude to.

Generator questions
A lot of the answers to your questions have to come from the utility you will be connecting to. Many have very restrictive rules and regulations about any generation that's connected to their grid. They will likely require one or more protective relays of one type or another. As for...

hai, Your question is a little unclear, and we don't know enough about the Mark VI at your site. Is the Mark VI a TMR or a SIMPLEX turbine control panel? Does it have a <PD> Power Distribution "core" (module), with a door, and printed circuit card in the back of the core with lots of...

Please take the time to answer G.Rajesh's questions; they are prescient and germain to the problem. However, as Namatimangan08 has said, without being about to see the sequencing running in the Mark IV at your site it's probably going to be very difficult to say what is limiting the load. You...

Gas turbine power generation frame 6 load output
Vinayak, What is the resolution of the data capture/historian method you are looking at? Because if the resolution is not on the order of milliseconds, it's very difficult to say for certain exactly what all of the parameters were at any given instant in time. You also have to remember that...
