Mark V GSM protocol
GSM is described in the Mark V Speedtronic Application Manual, GEH-6195. GSM Stands for GE Drive Systems Standard Messaging communications method/protocol. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the designers of the "system" you described wanted to get data from the Mark V turbine control...

Advantages of Mark VI and Mark V over Mark IV?
Phil, I'm more than a little confused by your posting. GE didn't do anything more than any other business flush with cash would do when a competitor is being, well ... competitive. If you can't beat them, buy them. So, that's what GE did; they bought the retrofit services (and engineering)...

GE Vanadium Flow rate
There should be a written description of the system and how it's to be set up in the Instruction Manuals provided with the turbine(s). The systems I saw were open loop, with no actual feedback from the skid, just a signal to start and stop. I think some later versions used a 4-20 mA output to...

MARK-VIe SIL Capability
marco, I'm a little curious because if you were working with GE to develop a control system for a SIS one would think they would be helping to choose the proper components for the desired SIL ratings. So, why the curiosity about the configuration of a Mark VIe system?

hydraulic pump
Yeah, GE kind of did a "bad" thing recently with the permissive for the Aux. Hydraulic Pump.... The physical contacts of an actual physical pressure switch, measuring L.O. header pressure (since the Aux. Hydraulic Pump suction is "fed" from the L.O. header), used to be physically wired in to...

Atomizing air piping high temperature
Eng.Engineer, This is not the first time you have posted here on control.com where we ask people to provide as much information as possible to provide the best and most concise replies in the shortest possible time. HAVE YOU LOOKED AT THE ATOMIZING AIR PIPING SCHEMATIC (P&ID) TO SEE IF...

MARK-VIe SIL Capability
marco, Flattery will get a lot of things, but not everything. I have only seen blurry photos of a Mark VIeS "auxiliary" control system on a compressor-drive application in the Middle East. I called a former colleague, and he told me that there are Mark VIeS controllers (the main...

GE 9E Exhaust spread
M M Ahsan, One needs to be VERY careful about this. GE are using some different combustion monitor algorithms for different machines. What used to be pretty standard for all Frame sizes, is now dependent on many different factors. One really needs to look at the combustion monitor...

GT frame 6 issues
There are still too many things that are not known. And, you have to do what you have to do to operate your machine stably. When a unit is in Droop Speed control, if the grid frequency is unstable, then the load will be unstable. It's as simple as that. Full stop. That's the nature of...

GE Frame 9E- Check valves failure
When it comes to commissioning GE-design heavy duty gas turbines, there is procedure and there is on-site dictation of procedure. In the procedure, it may or may not call for flushing; some don't these days; they presume all the pipe is properly treated and installed in a clean and protected...

GT frame 6 issues
First, your configuration sounds relatively complex. Second, operating a turbine in Preselected Load Control Mode on an unstable grid will not allow the turbine to respond as it should to grid frequency disturbances. In fact, it will respond exactly opposite of how it should when Preselect...

steam turbine generator breaker trip
The practice of whether or not to trip the steam turbine generator breaker in the event of a steam turbine trip event is probably dependent on the manufacturer's design philosophy, or the plant designers, or even local technical regulations and/or standards. I've seen it done both ways, by...

GE frame 9E-Fuel oil pressure hunting
KA, You say the turbine is being commissioned. You need to allow the commissioning engineers to work through the issues at the site and deliver a working system. This is all part of normal commissioning activities. A LOT of components have to work together, and to be adjusted and tuned...

Atomizing air system - carbon deposits
It likely has to be liquid fuel that is somehow "dribbling" back into the purge air manifold. If you have a purge air system, then you likely have a unit capable of dual-fuel operation (gas-distillate, and maybe distillate-heavy for the liquid fuel portion). And, if you have carbon deposits...
