Remote Video Access in SCADA

I have a client who would like live and recorded video displayed on his scada system including remote access. We were going down the road of using Terminal Services (with Intouch) for remote access before the desire for video came up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe is supported over over terminal services. This is especially true on slower (<=DSL) telecom lines. I also need a video archive system intergated into the system. The client would like 30 second or less updates and I'm not sure how long of archiving.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?
 
I just bought a Dlink DCS-1000W (wireless version) and love it for the features you are asking about. You can video archive to hard drive based on adjustible motion sensitivity, send emails based in input trigger (5 Volt input), and at timed intervals send pic to ftp server. Can do 640x480 pictures, and can choose compression so frame rate will vary. The camera is a web server, so it just plugs into your ethernet network!! This means you can access it over network, or internet broadcasting WITHOUT the need of a dedicated computer to plug into. It supports activeX and Java modes! You gotta hand it to those Linux guys, thats what this thing is running. Thats why it does not crash.

On local 10Meg, streaming video at 640 is pretty fast. On 350K internet upload, updates every 2 seconds or so. 2x per second at med resolution.

Take a look at Action Controls (http://www.action-controls.com.au) Kingfisher line or
PLCs/RTUs that can have video cards added. The low power unit can handle two video inputs and the regular PLC/RTU can handle as many cameras as the memory, backplane and communications can accommodate. This is not a full-motion video system but rather a snapshot every few seconds at most from each cameras.

Vsystem from Vista Control Systems (http://www.vista-controls.com) has integrated the video into the Kingfisher scanner and thus the video frames are just data like anything else. A reasonable PC should be able to handle around 1,000 frames per second where the frames are 10Kb JPEGs. Just logging frames to disk on a 1.3GHz white box PC (cheap, no special disk system) we showed 1,500 10Kb frames per second stored.

Dear Pal,

I suggest you could use WinCC as the SCADA. It has a ADD-ON known as WinCC Guardian. The WinCC/Guardian enables integration of live camera images in the WinCC pictures, Video Monitoring and storage of Video sequences in a database. You have Single user/ Network User Edition. the Network edition supports 15 station. Each station should have WinCC and Web Navigator Client license. This gives you worldwide access to plant data. You will need Video cards as well and the recommended one's are:

Winnov Videum AV

The above support the option of streaming videos to other stations in the Network. You may use standard video card that is compatible with Windows.

A good example of a "lightly" embedded application on Linux and there will be a flood of these. High functionality at commodity prices. It helps to stand on the shoulders of giants instead of reinventing the wheel. I wonder where the activeX came from.

I forgot about Hirshmann, they have a Video IP system I plan to look at. I'm still not sure about the terminal services stuff but it should be pretty easy to test.
 
Willowglen has a SCADA and Video Input for both software and Hardware. They incorporate all the systems together. You could store the video remotely using IDE hard disk and will only required to view them when required.
