sy/max model 400 WITH ENGEL COILINE CONTROLLER

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for a miracle to get my Engel coiline controller up and running again. Our company is using sy/max model 400 controller and Engel for operator interface.

The system was running on Pentium 3 which died last 2 weeks, and the parts been ordered but we have no clue when it’s coming. That’s why I’m running into your help!

I got about 6 different computers with different hardware to get this system work. And I ran into a lot of issues because I had to extract the floppy data out and convert it to .ima and then boot it to USB ( I know it’s not the same but the floppy is giving me the same error ).

Here is my issue , when the system is getting to 12 upload setup to sy/Max , I get “***communication error between the computer and processor***” this is after finding out that the software were hardcoded to COM3 because it I don’t use it , it will stuck at 3 not 12

As I said I have about 6 computers and all of them has serial port built in but now I switched it to DOSbox-x because I need to work on the system remotely. Also, I’m using USB to serail and still getting the same error.

Here is what I did :

  • Changed the computers with no change (always comeback with communication error)
  • Tried to use Com1 on symax and com2 with the same issue
  • Tried slow dos
  • Tried slow down the Dosbox-x to 25MHz (3300 cycles )
  • Tried an older CPU on dosbox
  • According to engel cl manual , Ii should have Baud rate; 9600. Parity: Even, Start bits: 1, data bits:7 and stop bit 1
  • Tried cabled ( point to point )
  • Tried usb to com1 or com2 in the symax controller
  • Tried their ver of cable
